Ace, 8 is soft 19, same deal, double down, it is only ever going to be 9, never 19 if you hit the 2.
So if the ace is one of your two initial cards, and you double down, then it is only counted as a 1. Both in pontoon and Blackjack.
Whatever card you pick up next is played as is if it doesn't bust you.
firstly, why the hell would want to double down when you have 20 already?
secondly, in adelaide at least, you are only allowed to double down on 9, 10 or 11
