whats the consensus?
read first page, and people are all agreeing that betting is not reopened if someone doesn't make a legal raise, but are disagreeing on what a legal raise is.

Re: Trickier Rule Clarifications
The grey area always stems from what constitutes a 'legal' raise.

Re: Trickier Rule Clarifications
Dave I thought the 50% thing was more for stuff like if a player has put chips out not realising it had already been raised, but the chips they put out are already at 50% the raise amount from the previous player, therefore they are obliged to complete the call - or something.
I might also be getting that mixed up with something else but from memory it's also one of those "it depends where you're playing and what the house rules are" scenarios.

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Re: Trickier Rule Clarifications
Different rule Pete. Not saying that's wrong though.
If a player has called, they can't then raise unless they have been faced with a valid raise. From what I've been told by various people (TDs, et al), a valid raise is 50% or more of a current mininum raise.
That's the way I've always played it.

I think that was my point, I reckon you're getting the 50% from a different rule.

Agreed - unless of course you haven't acted yet, then you're free to do what ever you'd like!bennymacca wrote:betting is not reopened if someone doesn't make a legal raise,

This is how it works online (well, its been my interpretation anyway

Re: Trickier Rule Clarifications
lets say the blinds are 3000/6000
if someone throws 2x5000 chips into the pot without declaring their action, then that is more than 50% of a min raise, and their raise must be taken to 12000, not a call. this is what pete is talking about, and this is a different rule.
if this player is all in however for 10000, this doesn't constitute a legal raise, and betting is closed for all previous players to act.
so my understanding is that a legal raise is in fact 1BB, but if you put more than 50% of a raise in the pot without declaration, then your bet must be taken up to the legal raise.
two separate rules here.
i would really love to get a proper ruling on this. garth?
