its a tough one though, and there are merits to both keeping a card and cashing it in.

That's assuming, though, that a) some or all of your opponents have used a card and therefore have a larger stack, and b) there will definitely be an all-in, or close to it, every time you get involved in a pot.

Sure, you might have 800 behind you instead of 1800. Who's to say you'll get the opportunity where the extra 1000 would have been beneficial?

I, like AK, have on afew occasions this season, not cashed my card in at the start. It obviously leads to playing a slightly tighter game, but I don't remember kicking myself thinking,"If only i'd cashed that card in, I'd have X in front of me instead of Y."

For what it's worth, here is my perspective on the flight cards.

I don't cash in either of them at the start, but I don't play tighter because of it
. I'll still play the same type of game, knowing that, effectively, I still have a 2k starting stack.

I take benny the cunt's point that if you hit the nuts early, you may not get full value, but at this point in NPL gameplay's evolution, if you go all in at 25/50 or 50/100 with 1k (as opposed to 2k) most will fold anyway. On the occasion someone with a bigger stack doesn't fold, and beats you, you've only lost 1k instead of 2k.

It's the same if someone raises all in with a lot more chips than you. If you think you have him beat and call, but you're wrong, you won't be crippled coz you'll have the cards to come. Let's face it - how often do we actually have "the nuts"?

I believe that in tournament style poker, it's not so much the size of your wins, but the size of your losses that affects where you finish!

Have a rip at that fella's!! (Just don't chuck stuff at me!)

I think the quote most often used here is
A bet saved, is a bet earned

Tho I'm sure someone more in the know will correct me if I'm wrong.

Dead right Luke.

Later in the tournament, you're seeing the better, tighter players (or the lucky loose ones! LOL) so the bad beats are more likely to happen earlier.

I think you guys have convinced me to at least give it a go with regards to not cashing in a card at the start.

I cashed in a card at the start of a tourny recently for the first time in ages.

I bled 900.

Never doing that again.

No way am I not using one straight away!
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!
