Sorry???![]()
I'm confused, with a stack of this nature in this tournament "you should not be expected to make the final table".
With $19,000, at the start of the second session, and 53 runners, you should not be expected to make the final table. You would be expected to last well into the night, yes, and depending on the player's skill level, do well, but unless you play tight, anything can happen.
Garth Kay wrote:So at what stage of a tournament should you expect to make the final table or with what chipstack?
It depends on a number of factors. How many runners, your stack, the cards you receive... you seem to be of the impression that with $19k at the start of the second break you should make the final table, easily. Ok, well lets assume that you're holding pocket Aces and someone shoves in all in preflop for $7g. Are you telling me that you're not going to call? Of course you are, with AA preflop you'd think you'd have to be ahead. What happens if you lose on AA, to trips, two pair, or a straight? Now you're down to $12k.
All I'm saying is that unless you play tight, anything can happen between the 2nd break and final table. Because you're the big stack, you're likely to call a few more hands than usual.
The start of the second session is still very early in the night. A points finish should be expected, yes, but a spot on the final table isn't guaranteed.
Garth Kay wrote:Every poker player when they sit down at a table should be expecting to make the final table, every player!
Not all poker players are hardcore as you and I. Everyone has different expectations for the night.
Garth Kay wrote:Change it to that the odds of making the final table have improved slightly or your odds of placing have increased dramatically just not something that can be construed as "it doesn't matter how many chips you have or at what stage of the tournament, YOU should never expect to make the final table"
Well of course your odds improve. And I never said that with any chip stack at any stage, you should never expect to make it to the final table. Having $19k at the start of the third session? It would be a massive surprise to not make the final table. You could easily fold out for the final table. The start of the second session is different.

Ah Gees. It's like talking to a brick wall.
Just bloody well revise your comment. That's all I ask. I am not debating I am not arguing anymore.
Change your comment from it's current form, just the one comment and stop been so pessimistic for god's sake.

Re: OMG GET OUT!!!
I think Bretts Tip and Strategies might be getting shut down. Will put a big post about it for everyone to go, wow. But yeah. Got to speak to some people first. Book Deals, Movie Rights, the whole shebang. Maybe even a book tour.
Brett.

Jesus Garth, calm down. We were just having a discussion mate. You asked me...

So I responded, no need to insult me. If you can't understand this statement:
AceLosesKing wrote:With $19,000 at the start of the second session you should not be expected to make the final table (third session, yes) - unless that's your goal and you play very tight the rest of the night.
I won't bother explaining it to you.

Re: OMG GET OUT!!!
Re read your post, as I mentioned everything else we are discussing isn't a problem. But your post in response to crystal's post can be read as derogatory of her skills.
That is the way Crystal interpreted as well.
The post can possibly be construed that you suck as a player and that no matter how many chips you have at what stage of the game you should never expect to make the final table.
Do you understand now?

Re: OMG GET OUT!!!
Edited to make my point clearer - sometimes i dont think about the wording of my posts and just write them.
I expect to make the final table every time i play poker, and i back myself to do this - obviously sometimes this doesnt happen.
the problem is, the less chips, the more chances that have to be taken to build a bigger stack.
put me on the 15K stack anytime and i WILL make the FT from there.
AK you are only focussing on copping bad beats to lose your stack.
what about the extra chips you can get by using your big stack?
when someone raises with A9 or something short stacked, suddenly it doesnt look that good when the big stack raises to put them all in with it.
question AK - would YOU rate yourself to make the final table if you had that many chips after the first break? i see where garth is coming from here.

Re: OMG GET OUT!!!
Quite often the word 'you' is used as a generalisation rather than referring to a specific person. Easily (and obviously) gets misinterpreted.
Suggest using a different word if referring to multiple people.

Re: OMG GET OUT!!!
noted pete, i do use it as a generalisation (has got me into trouble previously with people taking things personally that weren't meant to be taken that way)- will change it

Sigh...
I think I'm gonna take a break from NPLSA.com for a while. I can't stand all the stupid arguments I seem to put myself into every two seconds because some people (note the generalisation) are too thin skinned, and most of the time, a simple clarification/question would've fixed everything (as is the case here). I never implied to insult xtal, indirectly or not. To read into my original statement that far... come on. And even so, I apologised to xtal afterwards, and she accepted that.
Garth Kay wrote:The post can possibly be construed that you suck as a player and that no matter how many chips you have at what stage of the game you should never expect to make the final table.
To me, Garth, the alternative to that (which is what some people seem to be thinking) is "I'm the best poker player in the world, of course I'm going to make FT with chip stack." It reeks of egotism.
I have no doubt that with that chip stack, at that stage of the tournament you could make FT Garth. As would many other NPL players. In fact, I would bet on it. All I was saying is that it shouldn't be guaranteed 100% of the time.
bennymacca wrote:AK you are only focussing on copping bad beats to lose your stack.
Because that would be the only way you could not make final table.
bennymacca wrote:question AK - would YOU rate yourself to make the final table if you had that many chips after the first break? i see where garth is coming from here.
No. Points, yes, final table, no. Anything can happen. I'm sure I could fold down for FT if I wanted to, but I wouldn't be 100% sure on making FT.
BigPete33 wrote:Quite often the word 'you' is used as a generalisation rather than referring to a specific person. Easily (and obviously) gets misinterpreted.
Exactly. If I was referring to xtal I would've used her name.
