well well well the monkey is of her back. Today at kapunda Renee takes down her first tournament win! Upon reaching heads up Renee is out chipped slightly by Tank. She them proceeds to give Tank an absolute heads up poker lesson. All credit must go to Renee as it was one of the best heads up performances i have seen in 3 seasons, and just to clarify Tank is no joke (13 wins in 3 seasons). so well done buddy and congratualtions on the win, im sure there will be more in the future.

Re: I HATE HEADS UP!!!!!
My advice is practice... grab a mate... give yourselves 20 chips or so each... blinds at 1 and 2 chips.... and go at it...
if you have nowone to play with just go online.... theres always a heads up waiting for you there...
Ive been heads up 3 times... and won it once... the other two were pretty reasonable defeats...
1st game - My AKoff vs 99... i didnt hit...
2nd game - My A5on vs JTon... i won that game...
3rd game - My 88 vs JJ... that one hurt...

Re: I HATE HEADS UP!!!!!
i have played heads up 4 times now, and won 3 of them. the only time i lost was when i was severely short stacked. (bragging over)
i think the best way to play heads up is:
if you are short stacked, paint card means all in. no use sitting around and getting blinded. i.e if you have 30K with 10 of that in the BB, folding to a raise will give you no chance of coming back, so may as well gamble and try to hit your cards. if you lose, then doesnt matter, still in the same position as you would have been if you folded.
if you have a big stack, look for opportunities to lean on the smaller stack and make them put their chips in the middle.
and if they raise and you have junk (bottom 25% of hands), its way better to fold and keep them short stacked than double them up.
if you fold the bb to them, then they are using this for the next blind, so in reality you havent lost that much.
but an ace is frequently the most you will need heads up.
in addition, if you pick up a monster pair in the pocket, slow playing works really well - give them a chance to put their chips in.
these are the things that i usually do, but its been a while since i was heads up, so dont listen to me!

Re: I HATE HEADS UP!!!!!
Congratulations Renee. Now you have that off your shoulders you will get on a roll.
Last night first hand of heads up, my opponent pushed all-in. I had to call hoping he didn't have pockets. Anything other than pockets then it was pretty much a coin flip. He showed A-6 I had A-8. My hand held up but so easily could have gone the other way. You definately need some luck on your side by the time you get to heads up because the blinds are so high in relation to your chip stack.
After 3 3rds, 2 4ths and 2 5ths I finally got my first win of the season in the last week.
