Good Luck Matty. I know you can take it down just believe in yourself. In the early stages I think it is good to play but just be really tight. By picking up a few small pots in this time helps you keep around an average stack and you may even get lucky an pick up a big pot if you hit the nuts and get called. This can set you up to a really good start in your tournament. Is it deep stack because if it is even if you loose a couple of pots you have plenty of time and chips so dont worry about it just sit back and wait for the opportunity to pick up a pot or two.

Re: Step Games - 888 WSOP
Thanks again. Well it was not the game I'd hoped for. I basically got crippled on one pot.
Blinds were 25/50. I raised to $175 UTG + 1 with 10c10s. Folded to BB. He re raised to $550. Which should have been my first warning sign and I called. Board came 3c9c2c. He lead out for $800 and I r/r to $1650 he then jammed to $3480. I called leaving $1185 behind me. He reveals AcAh leaving me drawing to the remaining two 10's in the deck. Turn Js river 8c.
Never recovered. He was playing fairly aggressively prior to the hand.
Lesson learnt!
Won a step 1 today so back through to step 2 tomorrow morning. I want that package LOL!

i think the key part of this pot is that you were UTG.
that alone makes your raise pretty strong. now the BB 3bets you. if you call, that means BB has to play the rest of the hand OOP. so BB is announcing he has a hand strong enough to play out of position against an UTG raiser.
unless BB is a complete monkey, that makes his range extremely strong, i dont even 3bet JJ here at lot of the time, its QQ+, AK and thats it. depending on how tight the utg raiser is, i might even flat QQ.
i think you can find a fold preflop, although its a tough one.
further, when he jams on the flop, what possible hands could he have here? unless he has 99, i dont think your 10c is ever good here. i think at the very worst, he has 2 overs with a single club and you are 40%. even though you have put a lot in, i think you can fold here as well, even though i doubt i am disciplined enough to do this myself a lot of the time.
back luck though matt. good luck in the next steps tourney

Re: Step Games - 888 WSOP
Thanks Ben,
I completely agree with you. I guess I was carrying over from the last game when someone re raised and then shoved in a similar fashion with top pair (7) and an A. Though in that instance I had hit a set of 3's so a far more comfortable call. Next time a bit more discipline is required. I then was just absolutely card dead with around $1100 left. Still enough BB's to get back in it but it didn't happen and then committed on the AK which I was ahead with until he hit the K-9 straight on the turn after the money went in...
Yep, look forward to hopefully making the next final...
Will keep y'all posted.
