You tell me... Why do people follow a brand? And what does that brand get out of their success?

That brand gets to be cooler than the other brand, assuming of course that it isn't already cooler than the other brand.

Exactly, so how do new people know that 888PL is cooler or better than the other brand? What if they could show that they have the best players in Australia?

instead of playing to represent 888pl against other leagues, i would rather play and represent 888pl in tournaments like the WSOP, aussie millions, sky city etc

all you would be proving by playing another league is that you are the big fish in the festering pond that is pub poker.

it would be much better exposure if players play in REAL tournaments (i.d daniel booth taking down the sky city champs)

now that is something worth playing for.

Matts first post was pretty awesome, but I agree that the idea is good on theory, but will never get off the ground. Bennys points are totally valid.

Also this made me chuckle.

Its actually not that far fetched - think FTA advertising, "FreeTV" and their push to keep sport on the <whateveritscalled>list so pay tv can't show it live (albeit for a charge)

Plenty of other instances of "industry associations" popping up to push a particular point of view too :D

If you use sport as an example though, it's more about not losing what they already have rather than promoting somethig new.

You don't see ch7 promotig ONE just beacuse it has free to air sport, but they will fight very hard with ten to make sure they both don't lose the footy to fox

And I agree with Aaron, the rest of matts post is great

this is off topic a bit but did anyone watch last weeks episodes of late night poker

6 max comp for 120k, 2 pro's (helmuth and ferguson) vs 4 qualifiers, all of who' qualified differently.

1 qulaifer was an aussie ( craig Ivey)who said he won his seat by winning APL's player of the year.

Pretty cool prize

i wont tell you where he came
Does anyone know how to make money playing uno vs 6 year olds, its about the only card game i get to play these days.

I also won't tell you how he qualified as their player of the year (coughdodgycough) and also (DEFAULT!!!).

Not counting all the hearsay regarding the circumstances of all his wins to gain his position on the leaderboard, but the fact is he actually finished 2nd overall. The guy who came first had a criminal record and was not allowed a visa to America. Hence, victory by DEFAULT.

Morning All
I know Craig Ivey from back in the days when I used to play the other "evil" comp and he is one of lifes' true gentlemen. He did finish 2nd last year, but the APL system is based purely on total points. Problem with that system is the more games you play the more points you accumulate, so unless you play a million games a week, you have no show. The overall leader played 117 games more than Craig, but Craigs average was better. Well done Craig I say. Not his fault the winner wasn't allowed into the US of A

Rank MemberID Name State Score Events Average
1 APL009856 Aaron Jerry Jenkyns NSW 15225 576 49.2
2 APL220011 Craig Ivey SA 14280 459 52.1
3 APL157647 Tim Field QLD 13960 431 49.4
4 APL451068 Skye "Mumsie" Jones SA 13360 482 46.5
5 APL255750 Alan Robinson QLD 12905 609 36.3
Stupid game..... Never playing again
