As far as the out of position bet I really prefer the first option that Brett had explained.

It seems a lot fairer to the blinds as well as the early position player.

Also by using the first option if the early position checks he has to follow suit and it takes the bully effect out of play. Especially, if it was intentional to steal the blinds.

You didn't state post flop or preflop. So will put in the answers in red

Post Flop
bennymacca wrote:ok, so if someone makes a partial raise, other players have the option to complete the raise or just call, and if the raise is completed, then betting is reopened?

Example: blinds are 200/400

Player 1 has 600 and goes all in.
Player 2 has the option to call 600 or complete the raise of 800.
- In this instance player 1 has bet 600 not reraised.
if Player 2 calls 600, Player 3 can only call 600 or complete the raise of 800, but no harder?
-Player 3 still has the call raise or fold options. He can call the 600, raise to 1200 or greater (bet was 600) or fold

if Player 2 completes the raise of 800, then betting is reopened to Player 3, who can then do anything.

Its a lot easier to explain this in person. With cards and chips and table positions.

Cheers Bob.

Nah i am just in the Don Bradman category. Know more rules than the average player to keep me in my Job :-).

Got to remember i was the one that introduced Garth to poker. :-) I enjoy the strategy side of card games. Euchre is fun with just 5 cards and a partner. :-)

Brett.

correct me if im wrong dakota (or somebody else),
but if player 4 bets out of turn for 5 hundred, then its my understanding that player 3 (the one who the action should have been on) is still able to check. the reason being that the actions of the rest of the players (5,6, 7, 8 and the blinds) are likely to influence whether or not player 3 calls the out of tuen bet.

in a normal situation, player 3 might have checked, player 4 bet 500 and one of the other players raise over the top for much more. When the action finally came back to player 3 then they would be more likely to fold because of this action.

if player 3 has to decide then and there whether to call player 4's out of turn raise, then that player does not have the benifit of the information gained from subsequent action at the table.

its my belief that if a player bets out of turn, players before that player CAN still check to the out of turn raiser, and will have the decision to call/fold/raise when the action next comes around to them.

is that the correct interpretation?, its slightly different to the above mentioned, but this seems like a fairer way to go because player 3 (the player who was 'skipped' in the betting) is not disadvantaged as a result.

maccatak

You are correct if player 4 bets out of turn, then any preceding player may check to him.

If they all check to him then his bet stands and continues as normal. If they raise before him to 600, then he has to put in the extra 100 to stay in the hand.

there is no rule that a player before the out of turn needs to put in the 500. And can wait for it to come around again before calling.

Brett, in the above reply aren't you refering to a POST FLOP situation .........YES???

And if it's PRE FLOP player 3 has to either call the BB, raise or fold?????

In any event player 4's bet stands unless player 3 raises more than player 4's $500. If player 4 decides to fold then his bet stays in the pot.......YES??
