Stuff like "There is no need to constantly show the person next to you what cards you have" and "ffs, pay attention" could probably be made a bit clearer for any new player. We're in the pub after all

Could probably start even simpler than the above...

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Haha.
There's nothing wrong with opening 4x or larger (in certain situations, say you want it to look like an overbet, or there are too many limpers). But generally, in the late stages of an MTT, 2.5-3.5 will suffice.

in cash games, i like to open 3.5x as a min. i.e pot.
it seems to give you more options post flop, and creates larger pots, which are good.
tourneys are different though

True, because in most cases people have >100BB in cash games. rarely will the whole table have stacks this large in tourneys (except maybe in the first few levels of course).

Yep Mac's and Krunchies coaching paid off last night.
The pupil Brett put a move on Mac, from memory post flop Mac raised to 400, to a 10 8 ? flop, Brett came over the top and reraised to 1200, Mac went into the tank for sometime even verbalizing out loud some of his deliberations and the was some anguish on his face buthe laidem down.
At the break Brett said he was holding pocket 7's ......... was Mac in front maybe he will spill the beans or not.

Re: The things every beginning poker player must know...
He's learning the young lad. Plays quite tight, and reasonably aggressive, but up until this point in time had been really ABC. Once folded TT over the board when i triple barrelled A9 which had hit top pair nines and the NFD. So this one really confused me.
i get [ad][tc] in LP and make it 300 at 50/100 blinds. Brett from the BB calls.
flop [th][8c][2s]
brett checks, i bet 350 into the 650 pot and he raises to 1200 really quickly. This would commit my stack to play (i had about a 2k start stack).
To me this really polarised his range. I doubted very much he would check/raise me with a worse ten, so for me he either had me crushed, or had air. J9 was the only draw that may do this, but brett would be more likely to c/c i think, so my read was either JJ, TT, 88, T8, 22, possibly 99 or 77, or complete air.
my head just about blew up, and i ended up laying it down. turns out he had 77, but i was impressed that he had that play in him. he knew i would c-bet with a lot of hands, and he made the perfect size raise i think. i might add something to the list - never check/raise the bloke who is teaching you poker

I like that rule never check raise the teacher. I might add it to my list.
Aces Loses kings I was trying to be complimentary as I did like your advice and as you saw began to use it for the little time I had left in that tournament and it was working and saving me chips in the process. I will continue to use it late in tournaments in future.
I have actually used the advice I have received on this forum in my game and it is really helping. benny the cunt gave me advice after the Adelaide grand final and I have been using his tips also. I love to learn and this is why I like to visit this forum so much as there is so much valuable knowledge you can pick up. I also love to pass on any help I can give which was probably evident from my post.
I have been trying to teach my 2 eldest sons how to play the game a bit more sensible but so far have been unsuccessful. Son number 2 likes the thrill of beating other players with bad cards and upsetting them greatly and son number 1 is studying to be a priest and believes god is on his side and chases mad draws ( quite often works which is a concern lol). I am currently working on son number 3 who is too young to play yet and my problem with him is the opposite of the other two he is just too tight lol. My daughter who is 12 has all the confidence in the world as Joe Hachem told her he thinks she will make a great player when she is older and I have just been letting her watch Annette Oberstadt play as I think she is the best role model for women out there ( just my opinion please don't shot me for it
). I also found poker a way to keep the younger 2 interested in maths at school by letting them know that maths is an essential skill in poker.
Thank you everyone on here who posts and gives players like me information to grow as a player. Your views while quite often differing always help me see the poker through the eyes others which is a wonderful thing.
Two friends sitting at the same table..."Hey Joe, you sat down 15 minutes ago, aren't you going to say hello?" Joe says, "Oh, Steve! Hi, how are you? I didn't recognize you...you've got chips in front of you!"
