I don't think I can call doing something I love for only 13 hours, outlasting 498 people and getting $14k for it hard (well at the time it is a bit, but not after) :)

But I am very grateful for my poker winnings this year........using it to have summer off working before my new business is fully functioning early next year.

Looking forward to playing all the Event 1's @ Crown in 2010.......bring on Aussie Million's in Jan!! Oh and also my 888pl game Thursday night, I enjoy that just as much :)

And.........Garth you are king of the results ;)
Note to self: Fold Aces on the bubble.......

Name: old-man daryl "Mistress Poker" Westley
Favourite Hand: It used to be KJ, mainly through a game played in Hawaii, but now it gets me in to trouble more than anything.
Favourite Venue: Louisiana Tavern - Good meals, good beers, reminds me of New Orleans, only down side is Dakota ;)
Commenced playing (date and venue): Can't tell you exact date, but was the Tuesday of the first week of NPL in Adelaide at the Gully. Came 6th, then played the next night at the Midway and won, I tell ya, this game is easy! I had been playing online poker for about 3 years before that and was itching for any form of live poker.
Tournaments Played: Only got 10 fingers so I'll say lots!
Most Notable poker Acheivment: I have had a few decent sized wins over the years, most recently cashing $700US on Ultimate Bet, I used to make my poker money from specialising in 9 seat SNG turbos on Poker Stars, but haven't been playing that much of late, it will be something I'll be setting out in new years resolutions.
Poker Idol: Sammy Farha, the man is funny and just oozes class and he can play poker!
Image
Most respected poker nemesis: Tough one, I would say the Murrin boys, playing against good players makes you play well.
Best finish/return/prize at an 888PL Tournament: I've won a number of NPL/888 events and a couple from inferior leagues that I no longer play with. I think the first win was my favourite though, going heads up with a complete ass hat (can I say ass hat?? oh well too late!). Pub poker was brand new here and this guy had seen one episode of the World Poker Tour and thought he deserved to win on that fact alone. I took him down with A7 calling preflop to his shove. He had 10 high or something, neither of us hit and my Ace held up. He berated me no end for calling his "bluff" and I just laughed it off. It took him years to forget it and would constantly tell his friends how crap I was every time I saw him. About 2 years later he came up an apoligised out of no where.
Favourite aspect of 888PL or the competition: Easily the professionalism of everybody concerned with 888pl. The TD's and TC's that run the shows do a great job and put up with a lot of rubbish, but they get the job done and with a smile. they always look good and treat you like a person. The league shines well above any other.

Name: Todd Fisher
Favourite Hand: 7 2 off suit, and K 4 suited of clubs
Favourite Venue: The Warragul Club
Commenced playing (date and venue): October 2006, The Warragul Club
Tournaments Played: Over 200
Most Notable poker Acheivment: Starting to play a better level of poker and making my first state/semi finals without really trying and then backing it up by making this seasons as well and I am hoping to run as deep as possible, maybe even cash, and of course my first ever tournament win
Poker Idol: Phil Ivey, because I believe every other poker player is afraid of him and with good reason, can't stand Tom Dwan as he seems to get more luck than any other player, except for Joe Cadas' sick run on the 2009 WSOP final table.
Most respected poker nemesis: Don't have one yet, met another young poker player at the last Vic Semi Finals and respected his game a lot.
Best finish/return/prize at an 888PL Tournament: Cashing/Final Tabling in the secondary tournament at last seasons semi finals.
Favourite aspect of 888PL or the competition: Playing poker in a social environment for a bit of fun, but there is always the chance to better your game, and the professionalism with which 888PL is run.

Name: Troy Maskell
Favourite Hand: J-8 offsuit (The Suckout Special)
Favourite Venue: Mildura Gateway Tavern. Great fun, great people and a TAB machine six steps from the table 8-)
Commenced playing (date and venue): Crown Casino. May 1999. God I was a terrible player then. NPL/888 would've been the Berwick Spings Hotel 2006.
Tournaments Played: Played a couple of times in the Aussie Millions and the Melbourne Championships (Not the main events but in their series).
Most Notable poker Acheivment: Making $3.5k at Crown one night.
Poker Idol: Juha Helppi. The Finnish rookie who beat Phil Gordon heads up in the first season of the WPT.
Most respected poker nemesis: I don't know if I have a nemesis. There was a guy named Gary Wood I used to play when I played APL and we had some good tussles but I wouldn't call him a nemesis
Best finish/return/prize at an 888PL Tournament: I've made the final table a couple of times, haven't won anything though. I've only really started in 888 full time since September this year.
Favourite aspect of 888PL or the competition: The Social aspect, the fact you can go out, have a couple of drinks, play some cards, maybe take home a prize if you're lucky. The TD's are always welcoming and professional and most players are good enough and nice enough that you want to come back again and again.
Sunraysia's Newest Menace (Or Donkey. Depends on how many drinks I have before hand)
