The Riverland is probably unique in the fact that most towns within the region have only one venue affiliated with 888pl (besides Renmark which has two). This lends itself well to having venue based teams events, which was the case again today.
The Regional Finals was held at Cobdogla Club this afternoon with a 888pl $500 Grand Final Ticket up for grabs for the individual winner, there was a $5 prize for the knockout of each player, but bragging rights were paramount for the 8 teams that entered. Most teams sourced players from a particular venue (i was part of the Waikerie Club team), but some groups decided to go it alone and put in their own team.
The winning team would get their name engraved on the lovely plaque by TC's Todd and Nicole Rivers. Previous winners of the event have been the Waikerie Club, and the Renmark Club.
54 runners began the event with a 5k start stack.
In the end, the Waikerie team ended up winning the event (and approx $500 for our team) with an amazing performance. 4 of the teams 6 players made the final 6 of the event, with team captain Graham Baldwin cashing in a hefty double points finish in 10th place.
One of our team members, Michael Brown also won individual honours and a $500 grand final ticket.
Dino’s Allstars were second place finishers, but by a long way – the winners of the event were called while there were still two tables remaining.
Results
1st Michael Brown $500 GF ticket (Waikerie Club)
2nd Christie Partridge $150 (Dino’s Allstars)
3rd Matthew Wenske $75 (Waikerie Club)
Winning Team – Waikerie Club $480 ($80 each)
Michael Brown 1st
Matthew Wenske 3rd
Mark “Krunchie” Kroehn 4th
Matt “Maccatak” McDonald 6th
Graham “Gundog” Baldwin (Captain) 10th
Daniel Schiller approx 30th
All in all it was a great day, well done again to Todd and Nicole Rivers for a fantastically well run event.

Edit Mac
Renmark has 2 the club and the sporting club.
It was an excellent team effort, thanks for a fantastic result, I thought I was going to be the 1st Waikerie team eliminated at the 1st break I was just down to 1250 and by the 3rd hand of the 2nd session I had a mear 300 left, fortunatly the cards turned my way to enable a reasonable placing to support the rest of the teams domination of the entire event.

Up the Black and whites.
Not to blow a waikerie trumpet to hard but we did make the up river teams look a bit silly didnt we.
I forgott to ask Toddy the Td what happened to his beloved Renmark sides, went missing i believe.
Saying that i wish to re-itterate what a great job Todd and Nicole did, great event.
Just such a pitty we couldnt have had slightly larger numbers.
Great work to all that final tabled, especially the waikerie boys
Final table was 5 girls, and 4 blokes all from waikerie so that was interesting.
I cant belive i have money bubbled this event twice now, whats even more upseting was that last time when i bubbled i was given a box of bicscuts for my trouble,
no such wife bribe material today unfortunately
great job boys and girls a great event enjoyed by all

Re: Riverland Regional Finals and Teams Event.
Hi Guys, some footnotes of my own.
Final number in the computer was 56 but it seemed more didnt it?
HIGHLIGHTS:
Last few hands.......
Blinds are 5000/10000 with a 1000 ante. Three players left, each has over 90k in their stack and everyone is shoving - shoving - shoving! No bets, no raises, no checks, just flat calls, and shoves.
Last hand.......... Browny BB, Christie "Cricket" Partridge is dealer, she shoves with KQ and is snap called by Matty "mega tilt" Wenske with KQ also, Browny just slowly looks up at me and calmly calls, then slow rolls Aces!
FT Best hand..........Cricket firing 4 HUGE barrels at Matty with middle pair and him calling agonisingly all the way only to chop it up both holding J-10 , great poker!
LOWLIGHTS
Long weekend, daylight saving, burnout championships, Renmark Club 100-year Celebrations, SANFL grand final and just about every other function-or-do you can think of on the same weekend.
Realising when i got home prizemoney for 2nd and 3rd was actually $100 and $50 and thats my bad!
Reece Smith and Trevor Swanbury not being there for Krunchie to headbutt.
No one got drunk, except Lisa Roberts, who had fair reason, hitting a kangaroo with her car on the journey in!
Worst Hand........
Me at cashie after turning a straight and Tim Bredl rivering quad 8's. bleeeccchhhh!!!!!
Waikerie winning.
No, you guys all played well and thoroughly smashed them
all to the point where i had to call it under the mercy rule.
But, now with the boast comes the back - up, last time this happenned you guys were humilated in your title defense and i will use carefully edited quotes from this forum to form a team whose sole purpose is to knock you guys out!
If you can make it 3 from 4 then i'd put you guys up there as pokers' Geelong.
But, as i mentioned at the tourny, the next teams event i want to do is Guys vs Gals!
Whaddya reckon?

Have a guys versus girls withing the normal teams event. i.e. players would be competing for their team, and for their sex.

I'd imagine if the blokes win there wouldn't be much sex post-tournament.
