Im in 2 minds on this.

I understand your point re beginner players. But I also think rules are rules. You cant forward pass in rugby just because its your first time playing it.

I also think that the best way to learn the rules of this fine game, is to be burnt breaking one (intentional or not).

Nobody said anything about bombarding anyone with anything.

I think you're reading more into it than was mentioned benny the cunt.

If you are going to bother to mention it (which I think is great) then there's absolutely no reason to also let it stand. I'm sure you think you're just being nice to the new person, but you may have also inadvertently shafted another player at the table who was hoping to get in cheaply and therefore pissed them off. It's better to just follow the rule and then there can be no arguments about what was the right thing to do.

Bob mentioned what I forgot to say - explaining to them that's it's ALWAYS easier for them to just say it first is something that I do as well. More often than not the player will go 'oh ok thanks, had no idea, can see what you mean' and they'll know a) not to do it again and b) that other players do have the expectation of the rules being followed and c) that there's more experienced players who are willing to help with things like that and d) they can then pass that on if they see someone else doing it which helps everyone else to learn.

I'm sure we've all sat at the same table as another player who has been playing for some time now and when it's been pointed out that "no, they can't raise that bet of 500 by another 50" (or other such examples) they then claim they've always done that and it's always been fine and nobody has ever said anything.

There's probably several factors as to why that was allowed to continue, but I guarantee one of them is because nobody could be arsed explaining why not along with not letting it stand.

I don't find it at all unreasonable to politely pull them up on it the first time yet be firm with the decision.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

im with you CT

I had this exact issue last week at my regular.

This bloke kept mucking out of turn, and i explained the rule and why he shouldnt but he continued to do it.

Everytime he did we would mention it to him and he would say the usual, ok i forgott or ohh well its just a bit of fun aint it.

Funily enough i used the same analogy you did to explain to him that you couldnt throw the ball to your team mates just because it was your first time playing AFL ( he was a footballer).

Best thing was, he got his anyway, there was a raise to 200 and 1 bloke anounced call and put a 1000 chip out, at this stage our vilan mucked out of turn , then when the next bloke called with 2 x 100 chips he cracked the shits at the poor bloke that put out the 1k chip saying he didnt realise it wasnt a 1k bet and that he should get his cards back.

At this point most of the table put him back in his place ( very funny ) with the correct rulings and telling him that it was is own fault for mucking out of turn.

Unfortunatly he was still mucking pre an hour later when i re joined his table late in the game.
Does anyone know how to make money playing uno vs 6 year olds, its about the only card game i get to play these days.

After politely explaining the rule, if he did it again, I would have called the TD. Sit him out for an orbit and he wont forget.

also take in account benny the cunt that sandy creek is a CBI game, u need to be a whole lot stricter on the rules here. unfortunately, baptism of fire for these games as there are other peoples cash on the line here.
if u say it nicely to them they will understand and usually don't do it again.

not knowing the rules and ignoring the rules totally are two very different things

people that should know better WILL get pulled up by me if i see them doing something wrong (and if they keep mucking out of turn i will tell them every single time and prolly get the td over to give them a warning or time penalty)

BUT i dont think its fair to be a rules nazi to someone that is visibly nervous because it is their first game and they have never really played before. having said that ill only ever tell them once.

I still think you're putting words/thoughts into peoples mouths/minds benny the cunt :)

If politely explaining to someone why they can't do something, and not letting them do it makes someone a nazi in your eyes then I think maybe you're a bit sensitive, young lady :P

There is no point explaining to someone why they cant do something, and then allowing them to do it.

I should probably add...

There's nothing wrong with your intentions benny the cunt, it just seems to work out less fair for everyone overall.

At least you bother to say something, which is more than can be said for 99% of the other players!
