None of them can really be compared to football in terms of structure though.
By that I mean they'll each have their national leagues (except for F1 of course) and it seems to pretty much stop there unless there's international competition such as the Olympics or The Ashes etc
Football also has club competitions that span a continent or region (such as Europe or Asia) and that's one of the major differences, along with having multiple tiers of a national competition due to it being so massively popular.
With regard to clubs loaning players out, it's actually fairly rare for a player to be loaned to another club that is in the same competition - especially if that player is at all reasonable at that level. As you said, Buddy Franklin isn't about to be loaned to the Crows or anything like that - that's just daft.
It's often youngsters getting games at clubs in a lower league or in another countries league, similar with players who are good but aren't getting a start very often. It's sometimes better for the clubs to loan those players out rather than selling them, because they are seen as an investment (both in $ and playing worth).
The situation with Perth offering 3 of their best players is pretty unique, but the main reason for it is the continued growth and development of football in Australia, and in that instance I think that's pretty darn awesome. It can be seen as a slight negative that 3 of Adelaides players wouldn't really be Adelaides players but there are too many more positives for everything else for it to be a bad thing.
A lot of the Socceroos would be looking for loan deals in Asia at the end of the A-League season anyway, purely for match fitness/sharpness ahead of the World Cup in 2010.

Yeah Alonso is gooooone.
Looks like a replacement has already been lined up, no idea if he's any good though - certainly expect him to be reasonable but haven't seen him in action.
