The moral of the story is every poker player should be able to sit at an online table and receive the same respect as one would in a venue tournament!

I woudn't dream of abusing someone in a venue or online but I am a faily passive person. Heck, I don't even question the way people play their hands or say 'You should have done XYZ' because why give out free poker advice to someone you potentially have an advantage over?! ;)

Over the past month I have seen some really abusive players. A few days ago I witnessed one 888PL player telling another to 'go kill yourself' (which I did take a screenshot of so if someone is willing to do something about that, I am willing to email it)... whilst about a month ago I was told that I should be 'put in a gas chamber and gassed'.

If what you type in the chat box is something you would not say to a player in a venue tournament, then it's possible it's not the right thing to say to someone online! :D

You'd be surprised (or not) how much this happens online. It usually happens in any sort of online game. Some people will say anything online because they can.
We've how about links I would like to know I walk the line scrunches line at how the client Lawrence etc. etc.

LOL @ Dakota & old man Swanky

But to the main topic....

Obviously objective comprehension is a dying art.

This was a discussion about a specific hand, and nowhere does it insult you or make me elitist in any way?

Did I mention ANYWHERE in my posts that this made you elitist? Did I name ANYONE as being elitist?

I’m not interested in having a slinging match with you simply because you read into my words what you want.

I posted my impressions and I briefly explained how I came to those perceptions. They may prove to be incorrect but at the moment evidence from other sources suggests I am on the right track.

I’m not concerned about being classified as Loose Passive (hence my joke). Anyone is entitled to their opinion and it helps me if these are shared in a positive manner. In fact the introduction of this classification has helped me.

I’m not a whiney, cry-baby who runs and tells for the slightest indiscretion (I can give far more than I receive but that would make my behaviour just as inappropriate.). There are a number of factors that lead to my decision to post. I still see abuse even when I’m not the target and I intentionally omitted much of the information simply because I did not want to engage in any flame war, and it was my desire to be succinct.

Moral of the story is if you have a problem with people abusing you in the chatbox - turn chat off.

I could just turn off my chat and ignore it. There is a maxim that is an often miss-used and miss-attributed “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing”. While I don’t advocate the invasion of Iraq, I do believe an approach similar to that used in live games is appropriate. And as far as I can tell that approach does not include wearing ear plugs.

Could you please explain why anyone should actually have to resort to this? It's not at all unreasonable to expect players to do the right thing, exactly the same as they should be doing in a live environment.

Well said. ;)
This post is compliant with anti-comedy policies of this forum. Although not hurt, 10 clowns were sent mad in the production of this post and will undergo group therapy whilst crammed into a very, very small car.

A flame war is a heated argument between two individuals, that results in those involved posting personal attacks on each other during or instead of debating the topic at hand.

Most forums have rules that forbid flaming. This is because the quality of conversation on a forum can be seriously degraded by a flame war. Topics can be "hijacked" by two people who would rather flame each other than discuss the subject of the thread.

Some websites encourage flaming for the purpose of entertainment. One such website is http://www.flamewarforum.com.
I can't come to work today because i'm having a flame war on

I guess I was the "HOLDER OF THE FLAME" for a little bit. Now there seems to be others with more matches to start bigger fires and flame up the fire fighting hero's on the forum.

Damn, I'm starting to talk in Brucee jibberishness!!!

First let me say welcome to the forum and secondly, let me say how much I have enjoyed reading your first and other reply posts on this thread.

I'm particularly happy with some of the words you use to make your point. Which, I must say that I find are of very little use on a daily basis as they would be wasted on deaf ears.

However, because of this, you have not only sent me but also some of my learened friends to the online Dictionary many, many times. Learning new words and their meanings makes life more interesting.

Again I say welcome to the forum!!

Is it unreasonable to expect that? Hell yes.

People have always and will continue to have more balls behind a screen than they would with no protection.

I don't condone the aggressive nature and abuse that goes on in the chat area. But the chat area is separate from the poker. You don't need it to play. Damn, you're plying online, at home, alone.

The chat window in poker is the same as any chat window, or forum, anywhere. You read it if you want, you take it with a grain of salt, and you either leave it open or close it.

Playing live poker, vs playing online poker, are mutually exclusive, IMO.

Peter,

Whilst I appreciate what you are saying, I have read it a few times.

Maybe in your angst-rant things weren't structured as well as you would have liked. The two paragraphs before you mention macattak11, as well as the one where you do really do read as if you are calling him elitist.

Maybe it's just the way I read it, though.

Until I can play 5 hands a minute in live poker, I agree! ;)

My work load has eased slightly which has allowed me to do some further reading on a small hobby I have: playing poker. Thus I found my way here to this forum with the intent of learning and sharing some pictures from various events. But now I wish I hadn’t.

I’ve discovered that a few of you are elitist, arrogant #$$@#$@#*s who ridicule and humiliate others for what YOU deem as incorrect play. (888 staff are emphatically excluded from this generalisation.)

I'm just posting this for prosperity.

I think the bold section is where I interpreted you calling us elitist. I can see how I could be confused though :? You may not have named names, but given there are a select few major posters on this forum, that's why I thought it.
