Could you please explain why anyone should actually have to resort to this? It's not at all unreasonable to expect players to do the right thing, exactly the same as they should be doing in a live environment.

888 (note, NOT 888PL) don't really seem to have the provisions in place to help eradicate this, so we'll apportion some of the blame to them - but only a small part.

Other sites seem to have the option to request some live assistance from a moderator (of the poker site) and I personally think it would be great that if some tool starts sprouting personal abuse (please note this is quite different to suggesting a hand was played badly) then they could be promptly removed for good.

P.S. Hi Pete, welcome aboard.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

The Dry Side pot thing is a big bug bear of mine.

I am all for the unwritten poker law of "checking it down" if Player A is all in and Players B and C are in the pot..... to a point.
If I end up hitting the nuts or what I perceive to be the nuts, whether on the flop, or the turn or the river, I am going to try and extract as much money as I can out of the other player. I don't care about any unwritten rules then.
Other wise, I'd limp in to every hand and expect everyone to check it down after that and see who go the luckiest.

While we're on the topic.....

To be blunt, it makes no difference what a person perceives the tone of any message to be.

People need to understand that's their own perception, and they are not the person who created the post, therefore they do not and can not know the tone that would have been behind the post had it been spoken.

Clearly, some posts are going to be somewhat more obvious than others. That's our job as Admins and Mods to stay on top of such things where possible. We do not tolerate obvious, direct personal abuse of any kind.

So a comment such as "do not be so insensitive" could probably be better worded. It's more a case of "ok that's your perception, but you don't know that for sure and you are making an assumption and you could easily be wrong".
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

I agree Pete and I think the support at 888 is EXTREMELY lacking, I reported a player for abuse and extremely offence behaviour the other day, let me drag up their emailed response.

OK I apologise, I can't find my original email, I think because I went to the 888 website and send my complaint by form.
It essentially complained about a player who, right from the get go started an endless tirade of racial and hateful abuse to EVERY player.
His swearing and abuse of players was the worst I have ever seen in my 10 years of playing online poker and and quite frankly I was offended, something extremely hard to do.
I sent 888 complaint while the tourny was still taking place and this was their response some HOURS later.

Thank you for contacting us.

old-man daryl,we are very sorry to hear that you have had an unpleasant
experience of this nature at our tables.

We do monitor our chat rooms and request members who use inappropriate
language to leave. However, occasionally one or two may slip through the
net.

Poker Table Chat can be both entertaining and informative, but at
Pacific Poker we want you to be able to pick and choose just who you
would like to converse with.

That's why we include a Disable Chat feature. If you do not wish to
communicate with any particular Member, simply right click on that
player's seat. An option box will open. Click on "Disable Chat". You
will no longer see Chat Messages from that Member.

Pacific Poker is very severe in dealing with matters of this nature and
therefore we require specific evidence in the form of a screen shot of
the chat.

In the meantime, a warning will be issued to helenisthe1, however, for
us to take further action in future, please bear the above in mind and
notify us immediately if it happens again. Please include the account
mode in which you are playing- Practice or Money Play - and a screen
shot of the offensive chat.

old-man daryl, please accept our deepest apologies for any offence caused by
this individual's actions and I hope this will not discourage you from
enjoying the Pacific Poker experience.

Kind regards,

Edwin S.

So they do monitor the chat, however in order to do anything about, they require me to take a screen shot???
Are you serious?

To say the least I wasn't very happy with this out come.

I only use 888 to play against "NPLers" and for the "Home" free rolls, apart from that, soo as my cash is used from my account, or I have a total worth withdrawing, I will be doing so, I hate to say it, but it is far from the best platform to play on.
Although the range of tournys is really good.
And customer service, well there is none as far as I can.
Luckily 888pl staff in live events are a complete different story.

DID YOU SAY ... TURN CHAT OFF???
Where's the fun in that??

It would be like me having nothing to say and where would benny the cunt, AK, yourself and many other be if we MUTED the chat???

I say get rid of the mute button and put in sound so my words can be heard. LOL

My biggest disappointment or pet hate are those who declare they are going allin for one reason or another on the very first hand like;

I have to go so I'm ALLIN. (why bother playing turn on sit out and go)

Or, I just wanna see how far I can go if I go ALLIN every hand. (why not play LOTTO with the other kids then?)

Or, this one, I never caught any cards in the last tourney so I'm ALLIN and turn over a monster hand. (a true classic if ever there was)

And it's "NOT" funny when they hit with rediculous cards and knock out players who were so pissed off they end up calling hoping to get rid of those idiots.

Unfortunately, they lack the ability to consider others at the table similar to myself who are there for the enjoyment, play some good poker and catch up with friends, etc.

And what really, really, pees me off is when you see them an hour or so later still playing. So, you ask about their bullshit story of "having to go ALLIN coz they had to go" and they come up with some crappy excuse.

Well tha't my sook out for today and the 2.30/3pm game is about to start. I've set my goals again and hopefully I get on a good table. :D

The moral of the story is every poker player should be able to sit at an online table and receive the same respect as one would in a venue tournament!

I woudn't dream of abusing someone in a venue or online but I am a faily passive person. Heck, I don't even question the way people play their hands or say 'You should have done XYZ' because why give out free poker advice to someone you potentially have an advantage over?! ;)

Over the past month I have seen some really abusive players. A few days ago I witnessed one 888PL player telling another to 'go kill yourself' (which I did take a screenshot of so if someone is willing to do something about that, I am willing to email it)... whilst about a month ago I was told that I should be 'put in a gas chamber and gassed'.

If what you type in the chat box is something you would not say to a player in a venue tournament, then it's possible it's not the right thing to say to someone online! :D
