I still have no idea how they'll go.
Looks like they might be signing Mark Rudan - not sure if that's good or not.
If injuries do not cause too many dramas, I expect them to make the top 4, but this season is going to be pretty good with the new teams and all.
omg so much football to watch!

but as pete said, its a completely different competition. and adelaide's success (or otherwise) has a massive flow-on effect to the rest of the competition, both domestically and internationally
Exactly.. Perth get a % of any prize money we win, so in effect they are just earning their portion.

yea the new teams will make things interesting, Gold Coast will be really good this year, culina will dominate the competition, im really looking forward to watching the North Queensland, in particular David Williams, i think he'll score a lot of goals and will be exciting for the competition

Re: World Football Thread
I think its fine if Perth want to loan their players to teams participating in the Asian Champions league. Comments from Frank Farina have also strongly linked a possible loan deal for Craig Moore to join Adelaide during the ACL.
Adrian Madashi (think thats how it spealt) has also been linked to adelaide. We are only one quality defender short, although Daniel Mullen is injured, but will travel with the U20 Aussie World Cup team for a long period of time anyway, so right back is a concern morso than centrally, especially if we get madashi to partner conrthwaite (fyfe is a pretty handy sub defender).
As my little-more-soccer-knowledgable-brother said i think keeping people injury free will be the key to adelaides season, but we havent got off o a good start with cornthwaite and owusu missing big parts of training with swine flu, and having barbiero, mullen and sarkies injured also. I cant wait though.
Still deciding whether to go to the opening match at hindmarsh, although id have to travel down friday night, travel back saturday for footy, then head back down for benny the cunt's home game afterward. would be a fair bit of travel.

OH NO!!, Zola is confident that West Ham can still persuade lucas neill to stay, i hope he doesnt stay, hes pretty much the reason our last owner went broke, lol it was lucas' weekly wages that sent his wealth plummeting haha, but if he can take a huge pay cut and get paid somewhere near what he's worth then i guess he can stay

I'd just like to say, I hope Sarkies is injured for the entire season.
He's a player I love to hate, absolutely useless.
hey what position does Marrone play? Is it right back?

Re: World Football Thread
Marrone played centre of defence in a couple of the friendly games, but he played a game or two at right back last season. I think he will probably get first crack at Mullens spot at the start of the season.
Will be interesting to see how Francesco Monterosso (sp?) goes this season. He is a young player who was top scorer in the youth league last season and will be united's third striker this season (not allowing for the fact that doddsy will prob play up front from time to time). All reports suggest that Viddy wants to play a 4-4-2, and with Owusu out of action for the first few weeks of the season at least, this lad may get some game time, even if it is off the bench.
I think we will have to continue with our 4-2-3-1 for a short time at least anyway. The bonus i guess for United is that with our defence not as strong as last year we will have to become a more attacking side.
Im predicting lots of goals from Cassio and Dodd from midfield thiss season, and if Adam Hughes plays well he could score a few also.
This is how i see United's best side lining up (4-4-2)
Galekovic
Mullen Cornthwaite Fyfe Jameison
Dodd Barbeiro Hughes Cassio
Cristiano Owusu

Not bad macca.
If Rudan signs I'd swap him in for Cornthwaite quick smart.
