This is pretty interesting!

Perth Glory boss David Mitchell says he is prepared to loan his Socceroos trio - Mile Sterjovski, Chris Coyne and Jacob Burns - to Adelaide United for next year's Asian Champions League campaign.

Odd, but that's not shabby at all!

thats actually pretty awesome. if it doesn't affect perth too much, then why not? if it helps the australians do well on the international stage, then thats wicked.

i would be happy if travis dodd was loaned to another club if adelaide didn't make the champions league (except melbourne)

But then wouldn't it be Adelaide United/27% Perth Glory.

Seriously. What kinda sport would allow this. Hawthorn cant loan Buddy Franklin out just because they didnt make the finals.

This is just another reason I think soccer is stupid, the main one being fans who burn their seats during games! Where are they gonna sit next time??

CT: Perhaps read the article.

The Asian Champions League is a separate competition to the A-League, and the point in time they are talking about the loan is when Perth's season has finished and their players are doing..err...nothing!

It's specifically the Socceroos players being loaned, and this is to assist the players with their preparation for the 2010 World Cup and also to assist football in Australia as a whole.

Perth's manager has quite clearly been able to see the bigger picture here.

If it was during the season then I'd be more inclined to agree with you.

Having said that, clubs all over the world loan out players that are not quite ready yet in order to be able to give them valuable game time and further their development. They just don't loan out their best players, but we're talking about a different scenario here.

if it was perth loaning the players in a regular season game just to help adelaide beat melbourne or something, then this would obviously be silly.

but as pete said, its a completely different competition. and adelaide's success (or otherwise) has a massive flow-on effect to the rest of the competition, both domestically and internationally

what are everyone elses thoughts on how the reds will go this year in the A league,
i think if we can keep somewhat injury free we should just scrape into the finals, but it wont take many injuries to the squad to see us fall well down the table, we dont have much depth at all,
