If somebody has a set or TPTK or two pair or some other hand with excellent showdown value, the bet away into the dry side pot. I want value from the other all-in caller here too. (depending on your read of the all-in player of course)

But when you know you are going to showdown (because a player is already all in) and you bet a draw, essentially turning your hand into a bluff, then this is stupid. What is the point of bluffing when you know there is going to be a showdown.

This is what people mean Pete.

I know the reason why not, I don't necessarily 100% agree with it but I'm well aware of it.

I was objecting to the "it's a dry side pot therefore just never do it" approach, which I thought was obviously what I was on about.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

I generally like to have two pair or better if I'm betting into a dry sidepot (or a large overpair, QQ on like an 8 high flop).

I can see some situations where betting into a dry when you have a reasonable draw is ok (to yourself).

If they don't like it and they fold well they're not going to win any of your chips and that's their problem.

If they come along for the ride and you do hit your draw then more chips for you and it's time to suit up :P Just be aware that if you miss the draw you risk looking like a tool :)

Example? I can't think of one.

I don't see the point in betting into a dry sidepot, with a draw. Why waste chips when you can check for free?

It'd be reasonably rare but you may elect to try and build the pot further if you had a large number of outs.

Off the top of my head something like an up and down straight flush draw might tempt me to want more chips and I'd not really care if someone cried about betting into a dry because it's not as though it's only a gutshot and I'd rather get paid off on a hand like that, should it hit.

If it's the money bubble then obviously them folding and/or crying would be more likely and it mightn't be worth it.

Even so (and this is what I thought you were referring to) an OESFD is hardly the nuts. All fair and good to build a pot when you make your hand, but betting (when your opp may very well fold a large number of one/two/mid pair hands that will pay you off on the river) seems pointless to me. Especially deep in a tourny, you could brick and end up with T high, to the all in's K high - there's another player left in the tourny!

Again, I described it as a choice you *could* make if you wished. I didn't say you *should* do it.

Are you also saying you don't build pots before you have made your hand? crazy.

As many have said, the problem here is mainly people who bet into a sidepot with nothing. I asked a person why they did it on a board with low cards - "because I know you haven't hit" was the response and they hadn't hit either which meant the all-in doubled up on a hand that I would have won.

In a dry sidepot, yes.
