Pooraka Football Club

Postby David » Wed Oct 10, 2007 4:17 pm

After good comments were said to me at Roulettes on Sunday night about this venue, I decided to head to Pooraka FC to play last night.

Great place to go, nice and quiet compared to pubs, and plenty of space for tables. The bar staff were very friendly and poker passports were filled easily without needing to spend a stupid amount of money.

Apparently they are floating the idea of Sunday afternoon tournaments there which I think would be great.

Head there, then on to Roulettes!

GREAT venue!

I am struggling to think of anything negative to say about this place. All I can come up with is they don't currently offer meals.

I confess to having reservations about visiting a footy club for poker but I'm happy to say all my concerns were effing slammed.

The poker area is quite spacious with the average attendance being high 40's - but we smashed that tonight and got high 50's, still plenty of room for more tho!

Seeing as meals are not currently on offer the main concern would naturally be drinks for stamps...FEAR NOT! Tony, the venue manager, is clearly not an idiot and realises what some other venues do not - us as patrons are doing them a favour. I was told that T.E.D's are $4 (and 2 stamps!) and when I asked if that was a pint or stubbie the reply was 'whichever you prefer'.....had to pause to put my jaw back in it's normal position....'stubbie thank you very much miss!' Then I heard that cans of spirits were $5 !!!!! Saw someone wandering about with a can of jacks...jokingly asked if they were $5 too and every1 started nodding! I RAN to the bar and promptly ordered several :) (2 stamps for them too).

As well as the awesome prices for drinks there is a genuine friendly atmosphere which is due in no small part to the manager Tony, he's a top bloke and should you visit there be sure to introduce yourself and let him know the good things you've heard about the place.

They also have a chocolate bar skill tester!!!! WOOT!!!!!!!!

Extra prizes are also on offer which include a carton of TED's for the winnah and a bottle of plonk for the 1st placed loser and I think I saw some stubbie holders being bandied about also.

Great Australians everywhere :)

Get yourselves to the Pooraka FC - and like it!

The action is on Tuesday evenings with a 6:30 rego and also now on Sunday arvo's too!

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

If you're glowing review wasn't enough to convince me that I should attend at some stage... the mention of low priced TEDs certainly were. Quite enjoy that drop. Perhaps we'll see the numbers jump up yet again. Have to see what we can do.

Fantastic venue
We were looking to replace last seasons Tuesday venue with another and was told about this place.
A bit reserved on inspection but the following week decided to give it a go
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT
Ok it doesnt have meals (just order a pizza) but the price of the drinks and the friendly funloving attitude makes for the perfect night.
You even get free sandwiches during the break.
(If the poker nerd hasnt eaten them all)

Best of all the the management and staff make you feel welcome

DEFINATELY A PERMANENT VENUE FOR ME

It's the best venue going around by a long shot!!! ok no meals at the moment but if we can increase numbers enough there may be a change with that and the kitchen would be able to open up for meals.

By far the cheapest place to stamp up with great drinks prices.

I've played there since the start and watched it grow bigger n bigger. Tony the owner is a top dude as well and it's always a good time atmosphere guarenteed.

sandwiches tuesday nights as well if nathan doesn't eat them all!!

For any points issues in regards to the 23/10 please speak to Nathan and/or Shannon.
They can then tell you how they lost the rankings sheet and know their is a mad scramble to find out who came where.
Sorry for all of the inconvenience and lack of professionalism.
To all of those who have written to me previously I am sorry for the miscommunication I was led to believe it was a laptop issue.

Now let's add ONE more MAJOR "OMFG" factor about this venue, it's licensed outside, that's right there is no designated beer garden for you to be cramped into while taking the ol' smoko, but a glorious outside where one can see the majestic oval, take out their 'ober' (its now an official word in the oxford, or it should be) cheap grog out with them and have a killer time with the gang.

If outside is not your scene then inside is the traditional (and cheap) $1 pool table and well an overwhelming 4 pokie machines for those inclined.

Great work Tony,

Cheers :ugeek:
