Biggest donkout idiotic tourney I have ever seen

Postby AJG » Fri Jun 19, 2009 1:12 am

Just missed reg for the $3 888PL game, so decide to play the $1 MTT, and I have never seen so many crazy stupid shoves and calls, and suckouts. in fact i dont think I ever saw the best hand preflop holdup. QQ getting called allin by A-rag hits his Ace...

Here is just one example:

#Game No : 211450413
***** Cassava Hand History for Game 211450413 *****

Seat 10 is the button

I was pretty sure he didnt have an Ace, as this guy had been shoving and calling with extremely weak hands.

The first one is standard.. BB faced with an all-in of less than a BB raise, of course he's calling, especially with that stack.

Bagged a guy in the $2 challenge game for NOT doing it. (BB 600 stack over $5600, UTG allin for 820, BB doesn't call)
I'm not perfect. I'm what perfect aspires to become

I dont think it should be an instacall just because you can afford it, irrrespective of your cards...
cmon 73! You'd call purely cos its only another 252?
If u got crap cards most of the time all you will end up doin is doubling up the other player!

This came up with ubcreative in a $3 event FT, and we both agreed, too many players seem to think its their job in a tourney to knock out players (which is the ONLY reason I can possibly see for calling a small push with absolute garbage).... Its not! your only task is to accumulate as many chips as possible.

In the hand you regard as standard, had the BB folded his 73, the shortstack would have only picked up 450 and probably have blinded out or shoved when someone had a hand to call with. OK in this instance he sucked out with this 73, but running that through PokerStove, the 8s are an 81.8% favourite. And later in the tourney, when players are shoving for maybe 3 or 5 BB, and you say have 50BB, 82% of the time, you are gonna double him up playin like that!

Pot is worth 150 + 300 + 552 = 1002. BB has to call off 252 to win 1002, he is getting 4 to 1 on his pot odds, not only that but it is only 5% of his stack to call. This alone implies insta call even if his opponent has AA, he is only a 4 to 1 dog preflop.

In saying that it also doesn't matter what his opponent actually has but what his range of hands are here for shoving.
Without any information I am going to assume that a shortstacked opponent with less than 2BB, in a $1 tourney, with action folded to him and in position will be shoving almost 60 - 75% of hands: 22 - AA, A2 - AK, K2s - KQs, K9 - KQ, Q8s - QJs, Q8 - QJ, and suited connectors 45 - JT and connectors 67 - JT, we can also include one gap suited connectors 46 - J9 suited.

That means, and I don't have poker stove on here, I am beating his range of hands 2% of the time, I am dominated as a 4 to 1 dog 14% of the time and the rest of his range I am racing or 60/40 ing with him. I will make this call any day of the week, especially considering I am only losing 5% of my stack and doubling him up will mean I still have him outchipped 5 to 1 and he remains shortstacked still.
