In regards to the "good old days" post, everything is better in the good old days when men were men etc etc.

Just because players these days cannot kick a drop kick anymore, it doesnt mean that they are not as skillful. you cant tell me that darren jarman, mcleod and co couldnt perfect it if they wanted or needed to.

the game has moved on, because it needs to to stay exciting. otherwise, the kids are gonna go play something else instead of footy.

p.s i am not old enough to see west torrens live, but i still appreciate the history of the SANFL, and the AFL/VFL for that matter. but times do change, and so the game has to move with it.

I think you both have a point.

That's right, I'm sitting on the fence :)

With a lot of sports there's *much* more focus on overall athleticism than back in the day. Naturally, skills tend to suffer.

It's also true that it's a different game now so comparison between eras is a little like apples and oranges...both fruit but that's about it.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

HI THERE benny the cunt AND YES YOUR ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. TIMES HAVE CHANGED AND THE ATHLETE OF TODAY COMPARED TO MY ERA ARE SO DIFFERENT. (SORRY ABOUT THE UPPER CASE TOO LAZY TO CHANGE AND REWRITE LOL).

BUT I DID SAY DON'T GET ME STARTED ON NEW VERSUS OLD FOOTBALL

If you ever get a chance to watch the "OLD FINALS" that are replayed on FOX leading up the the Grand Final this year you will see what we (older people) are talking about.

The skills of the past will always be the pinicle of what football was all about. Darren and his brother Andrew prided themselves on old school tactics and both were able to perform all three.

Unfortunately, the drop punt doesn't require the additional hand, eye and foot co-ordination in todays running game. Unless, they are taking a shot at goal that is another pet hate of mine.

Todays morons pull up their socks that are already up and tuck in their top and throw grass in the air. Then they throw some more grass in the air just in case they forgot which way the wind is blowing in the " TELSTRA DOME" with the roof closed LOL.

Then they spin the ball around looking for the perfect shape. Wiggle their arses skip hop pirroette like Barny Rubble and kick the bloody thing out on the full. Drats, bugga, poo. Then we get 20 replay on why it happened etc, etc, etc.

Bloody hell!!! Malcomb Blight was under pressure when the siren sounded he was in the centre and kicked a torpedo punt right through the uprights and into the crowd 30 metres back to win the game. Which I think was a grand final????? Someone will know.

Today you can run 15 metres usually 20 without bouncing the ball coz the umps don't count any more. Hand ball or kick to someone else who is under the gun so you don't get tackled. Then jump on top waving your hands around like a wanka to get a girly free.

Today they use words like "MELEE", where all the boys all grab each others tops and wrestle each other because one of them got a slap or decent knock and then carried on like a premadanna.....LOL.

In my day it was one in all in that's if you weren't unconcious LOL. Winter time in Victoria where it rained nearly every friggin day made the ovals like pigs whallows.

Not that I'm condoning this sort of thing but, there's one picture that was in every news paper around Australia where two guys were covered in thick runny mud from head to toe. One of the guys whose name I can't recall was grimassing in pain :o .

It wasn't till your eyes ran down his muddy face and jersy to see why this monster of a man was in so much pain. There he was the famous or infamous Teddy Whitton also covered and wallowing in the mud with only his eyes and pearly white teeth (no mouth guard in those days) showing. :D

The reason why the other guy was in so much pain :o was that Teddy had employed his infamous "squirrel grip" on the poor buggas you know whats  ......................ouch grimmace!!!!!!!!!!!

Bloody hell I think I'd better go now coz I'm starting to feel like I'm from the Roman era, LOL...............bring out the gladiators LOL

Okay time to go as I'm starting to have with drawals. Seasons around the corner and no biffo to be seen. Cheers dears, Bob B

He's a bit of a bonehead, but geez I loved Dermie back then.

I recall reading somewhere ages ago a person complaining about his 'special comments'. Their argument was that he chimed in for every single little thing and apparantly had a theory on why everything happened and he should shut the heck up.

After I finished laughing, I had a think about it and couldn't recall a single comment he made about those 'little things' that wasn't 100% correct. He damn well knows his stuff that bloke, and I daresay most of the champions of yesteryear do too. It showed that thinking quickly and correctly and understanding exactly what was going on around you was just as important as brute strength or lightning pace.

Here endeth my thought for the day, suffer in ya jocks.
