Nice to see fellow Eagles fans on this forum. Youv'e really hit a nerve here with me. The following are some of the reasons why I don't go to footy any more.
THE GOOD OLD DAYS........... West Torrens Football Club.
I used to love standing behind the northern goals (obviously I like to stear them through LOL). Bobby Shearman drop kicked a goal from the centre of Thebby Oval when he was with us and I marked it 20 feet behind the goals.
Hey, ask your dads or if your old enough if you or they remember the day Freddy Bills was concussed and refused to leave the pitch. He got the ball on a centre bounce and proceeded to run and bounce the ball towards the oposition goals.
Our player were yelling and trying to stop him and he just kept weaving and fending them off. Fortunately for us Old Freddy was noted for his inability to kick straight and missed everything.
How lucky were we to be able to see our players who had a variety of skills. Such as the low trojectory stab pass, or the acuracy of a the famous but now forgotten drop kick.
Lets not forget the old torpedo punt that we saw every weekend. Now when they see Rocco line up for one they think he's marvelous.
Unfortunately the flick pass came and went as the powers to be thought it was not in the best interest of the game even though it made the game faster.
And Neil Hawke, again an Eagles man who could kick a cow through the gaols on a good day, LOL.
He actual introduced the now famous DROP PUNT (although the Vics tried to claim it as theirs) to improve his acuracy in front of gaols.
Now the players of today are so limited and can only do the drop punt. Everyone uses this in todays game and although they say their skills and the speed of the games are faster and better I don't agree.
They don't have to work for a living and then go to training after work and after playing on a weekend go back to work on the Monday.
Bugga me...... I knew I shouldn't have read the first post about footy as there is no comparison between the old school and this crap they call football today, LOL.
They should get an acadamy award for in the back rule. Yet when a guy goes for the ball on the ground they can all jump on each other like grid iron and the poor bugga on the bottom gets penalised for holding the ball????
And then there's "The Acadamy award" .... "He Hit Me"
Where they roll on the grass holding their heads until they get a free, plus a possible 50 metres awarded and the other guy gets reported.
Getting more and more like soccer. The games gone to the pits.

As a fan of real football, where you can't use your hands, I'm finding it hilarious to be reading about play acting
(I'd also like to remind you that's passionately HATED in England and is much more common in places like Italy and Portugal),
I have a question....
What are the crows going to do for a ruckman this season?

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Biglands when fit - hopfully by round one.
Maric has declared his intentions so that's positive.
Add in Tippett and Sellar who could be used.

Simple. They're going to take two of the midgets they drafted in the off-season, sticky tape them together, and hey presto; a ruckman!
Either that, or Tyson Edwards sits on Robert Shirley's shoulders, and they wear a really long coat.

WELLLLLLL, I can still wear the boots but the tops riding up over my gut and the shorts make it to my knees, and provided they wait I can at least contest the ball on the ground LOL But I'll give it a go

Re: AFL
Maybe they should employ the strategy I got sucked into when I first rocked up at country footy...
'You're tall, you can be a ruckman'

Same thing they did last year, shove in someone inexperienced and rue Bighlands's injury-prone body.

Lindsay Head was a freak with the ball most of the time and made the oposition look so stupid. Hi ability to stab pass a ball to a fellow player was may I say.....................centimetre perfect.
