Garth: Poker is a sport, agreed. The person who should be enforcing any rules (and I do stress "should") can't be considered as part of the team because that simply means people won't listen, like now.

Referee/Assistant Referee would be a better type of choice for the role that they are there for. I don't care it you use the term umpire or referee or whatever, it's the theme I'm on about.

Wrong - Captains in american sport do have greater roles and responsibilities. I have no idea where this BS thought or concept came from.

I explained why we decided on Captians instead of referees. And in the cases described their first priority is not to enforce rules constantly and pull everyone up but to educate players on the rules and to ensure they are having a good time. In Foundation games and for many first time players it is all about educating players on the rules and anything associated with the play of the game, hence why coach is another option. But there can be confusion when you title someone a coach.

As to why people don't listen - I am pretty sure this comes down to the players and the ability of the TC to control the crowd and command respect, I don't think the title has any impact on player attention.

I have to agree with JJ and Pete on this one as they are not our team captains in any way or form. They are employees of the governing body (888PL) to ensure the game is controlled within the guidelines set down by 888PL.

Therefore "Referee" would be an appropriate tiltle for a sporting theme even if it's not the correct one.

Whilst in NSW I played a cashy at an NPL venue and the person in charge actually introduced herself as our "NPL HOST" for the evening.

Just as well 888PL weren't Army related coz if we were to carry Bruces captain theme a little further would the Captains assistant be a "Corporal or Private" or would we be the "Privates"? ;)

And would that make Tim a "General" and you the "5 Star General", or "President Garth" of this team??:?

EDITTED by Me, Obviously my opinions and views are of a personal observation and have no bearing on the outcome to any decisions made by the 888PL.

I do remember a thread referring to Poker vs Sport ages ago and can be a bit slack when it comes to searching for stuff like that. So I stay out of that, for fear of bringing the old argument out and rehashing old debates.

Garth, maybe I didn't have enough to bitch about and the Captain term bugged me more than it should so maybe I should appologise for picking on something so trivial and for the record, it isn't like we call them by anything other than their names... (as suggested by one forum member.. ;)... )

As for the not listening part, maybe the removal of alcohol and egos would be an instant winner.  (I can hear the gasps and fainting from here)

Ohhhh and Bob.... Keep your "privates" where they are... LMAO

Please feel free to start again and read posts that I have made.

Out of all of the things we could be discussing or debating over this is not one subject I wish to waste any more time or energy on. I really don't give two shits what we title them, or what people call them, as long as our contractors do the job asked of them and do it well.

Please feel free to continue this debate in any way, shape or form. My answers are above for all to read; the thought processes and why the name change. I do believe this to be a very trivial argument for what has occurred in the last week. And if this is the worse people complain about then I am a very happy man.

I don't recall ruling out making sure people are enjoying themselves and/or educating players.

Your reply INCLUDED what I did mention.

Captain of a basketball team does what? :P
Besides the point though, was invented by a Canadian.

I would just like to point out that, on a football field, it appears an AFL captain leads by example, and the coach is the one making the tactical moves (via the runner).

As suggested by Garth, does it really matter what their job title is? Isn't how they do the job more important?

Next, people will complain they don't like it being called a Foundation game!! Or that the green felt hurts their eyes ;) :? :D

Garth,
As always you have been up front and honest it is always appreciated by myself!
To be honest, this has been the only complaint (and as I said... it is a trivial complaint) aired so far with the new structure being rolled out...
I think that speaks volumes!!!!
