ok, this is what i am trying to say.
i have played on stars, tilt and pokerroom since 2003. on and off, and only ever at micro stakes, but i have played relatively consistently since then.
i have played in tourneys where there has been late rego, and tourneys where there hasn't
my experience is that when the late rego came along, the regular tourneys i would play in increased in numbers by a lot, i am guessing even 50% more.
now my experience is that an hour into the tourney for example, there were the same amount of runners in both tournaments, even though one had 50% more runners in it to begin with
now this makes me think that there are lots of players that are only there because they need a quick poker fix and jumped straight in without thinking through the fact that they have to be committed for 5 hours.
this is obviously good for the committed players as there are people that are just not there to last the distance.

Re: Late registration for tourneys
I can agree with benny the cunt. Players that want to play NOW are more likely to bust out earlier than players who would wait 5 hours. Why? Because they're impatient. So that means they are a generally impatient person, which, in turn, means they're going to be impatient at the poker table. Good for you.
I like late registration, but it should only last until the first blind level. In many SCOOP events (and a few Sunday tournys) late rego lasted for an hour. Now that's too much.

Re: Late registration for tourneys
I've noticed the late reg gets a workout when it's a largeish $ guaranteed tourney.
This bumps up the prizepool more often than not, and that's ok from that perspective. I can't see how they somehow didn't manage to register earlier though and are probably trying to take advantage of there already being some allin first hand type players being knocked out.

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Re: Late registration for tourneys
Simple theory,
If your complaining about more players starting a tournament, it means you are questioning your own ability to cash in that tournament. The pools increase and there are more payouts the more players there are.
At the other end, If you think you can win it, then first place gets a larger prize.
Honestly, if you start with a full table of 9 or 10. Then no matter how many extra players there are it shouldn't be affecting you. Why? Because you are starting with a full table, and playing that table and not the whole field.
If a late reg is put on your table, or a stack with $1500 is moved to your table, you still have to learn their game and play them out.
No point getting upset about it. Because it will ultimately distract you and affect your game.

I don't recall being worried about more players.
It's the principal of the thing.

Re: Late registration for tourneys
Guess its the three options pete.
Don't Care.
Like it.
Hate it.
I am in the don't care camp. Only thing i don't agree with is that if late rego is open, and there are tables that are playing 3 or 4 shorthanded. They should be filled first. Rather than the ones with 1 or 2.

The original statement (not by me) was including live play.

Re: Late registration for tourneys
If I'm in a tournament (on time) with 300 people and by late reg closing, there are 500, I honestly don't care - in fact I prefer it.
As long as I don't have to be anywhere later on!
Can't really compare it to horse racing, or things like that.
