Great News Garth.

What about the Deepstack event at Berri is it a goer or not.

As far as I am aware the Deepstack will not be a goer.

Last I had discussed with Brock, we were trying to persuade the vene to offer a CBI style game. Unfortunately the venue is hesitant to do so. This would have alleviated some of the prize pool pressures on the venue and allowed them to pay us some more. After last year we were (FHG) out of pocket four figures for operating this event. I asked for an increase in payment so we could at least look to break even, but was told that for an extra 25% they would make a loss on the weekend.

So I have put my foot down on this one and I am not willing to do a two day event for what the venue were willing to pay, nor am I willing to have senior management away from our centre of operations so soon after a rebrand, comp and operational restructure; these guys will have enough on their plate.

Unfortunately that is the answer I have for you, I am unsure of negotiations since then.

Starting next season there will be at least four (4) special events held. These of course includes all finals but we have thrown a couple of extras in as well.

did you say $100,000 grand final, that could change you life, so first prize would be $40,000 maybe $50,000? that is jizzable, i've just jizzed in my pants

Mega frownies. :( :( Was easily the best event ever held by NPL.

Are there plans in the pipeline for a different statewide event in a country area. I think riverlanders enjoyed the challenge of lots of different players in their region, and city folk enjoyed the chance for a 'poker road trip'.

It doesn't have to be in the riverland, but an event that rewards country players would be appreciated by all i think.

what about a single day event?

for example you could still hvae it in berri, have the friday nightly game, then run a tourney from 10am till very late on the saturday, then everyone goes home sunday?

benny the cunt it maybe the case that since Simmo left, the venue hasn't the same focus on poker as a desired event.

Any major event for a venue must have a committed management team to making it work and happen, current management may not have taken all the facets into consideration when making its decision.

From my perspective the venue has changed since simmo left last year, I dont bother playing there any more.

Oh Bugger a good weekend lost.

The amount of days we run the event isn't the biggest concen.

The biggest cost to us, is hiring a truck, transporting 50 tables and then returning. ANd it isn't the most fun 2 hour drive when you are driving an overloaded truck. Last time got stopped and was well over TAR but I just got a warning.

This time we would need to hire two trucks and therfore the logistical cost has doubled.

All we asked for was an extra few dollars and we offered them a way to remove some of their fixed costs. Didn't happen.

Brock pushed ver hard for this event and in the end I had to make a decision. It was not an easy one, but with everything coming up over the next few months it was almost prudent to put this event on hold.

How does a thread about a new league and comp strucutre turn into a discussion on the Berri Deepstack and how dissapointed players are?

Sorry guys.

all good garth, your reasons are good ones - doesn't make much sense to run it at a loss

can you elaborate a little bit more on the online side of the competition? will there be nightly tournaments with their own separate leaderboard? how will the qualification system work? will the structure be more like standard online tournaments? (i.e 1500 start stack, 10-15 min levels?)

how do you qualify for the 100K tourney? is it by making the top x amount of runners in the semi finals? or are there no connection between these tournaments

Good news!

I fixed up the announcement as well.

I do like the idea of playing from home, have to say I'm pretty much over putting up with some (read: 95%) of the 'tards. That's a big negative of the CBI for me - I'm glad to hear it's allocated seating (because cash is involved) but at the same time that defeats the purpose of heading out on a Friday night with the other lads (and ladettes).

This announcement definitely is big news and it opens up a truckload more possibilities for competitions.
If there were some reasonably major improvements to the 888 poker software as well then it'd be super awesome as opposed to just regular awesome.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!
