Funny you say that Bruce, but me and a mate wrote our first article for the 'River News' (waikerie's local rag) and we will be writing the A grade match reports each week for the rest of the season.

Pete, re-ead the above post. There will be no bye, still 9 games a week in the new 18 team competition. Teams will play each team in their conference twice and each team in the other conference once.

Are your conferences going to change from year to year?

If yes, how does that make it fairer (unless based on prev year LDB)

If no, what happens when you get too many dominating teams in one conference?

Interesting idea, but personally, I fav dropping to 14 team, then play each other twice. Not enough talent in oz for so many teams.

Conferences would remain the same from season to season.

If there are better teams in one conference, then thats bad luck - its no different to the crows having to play geelong, hawthorn, st.kilda and collingwood twice each this year - except there is a reason behind the draw each year.

You'll notice I used the word 'if' macca.

Conferences are still a bad idea, for the reasons rcon pointed out.

One league where everyone plays each other twice is clearly the fairest method and they can do it they are just sooks. I'm sure clubs like the Western Bulldogs would want some more tv money too.

If you're going to have teams split up you would need 2 individual divisions that don't play each other and you can bet there'll be tears over who gets put in div 2 so that certainly won't happen.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Pete you never mentioned any reasons why my system is bad, other than to say you think its ridiculous and that you hate the bye (of which there wouldnt be one).

So enlighten me...

I'm a purist and love the history of the game. Making two divisions doesn't sit well with me for that reason. I love the game how it is, even with the impurities of the draw, draft, and everything else. Statistics would be skewed and history changed if it was to happen.

I like seeing my team play every other team, not half of them. It's one competition, and everyone plays everyone (Just not the same number of times).

dave, matt's suggestion had teams playing each other at least once.

You just play the same teams twice every year. And really, don't teams like bombres, eddiewood already have about 5 teams that they HAVE to play twice each year now? In order to maximise revenue.

Sorry, I got to page 17 and stopped
;)

Just kidding. I actually missed that part.

It's basically the same as the NBA then (which I follow closely) and probably other sports?

I still like it as it is :)

its just one of the nuances of the league.

Just like the EPL, if your weaker team happens to get scheduled against Liverpool the Sat before their last Champ League game, and u know they'll put out a weakened side to rest stars.

I'd rather it didn't change, but if it did, i'd like to see it go home and away. Which isn't likely with 16 teams

hm I thought I did....

Who goes in what division is problem number one.
Does every1 play every1 else an equal number of times? (if not, why have 2 divs to start with cos it's still not an equal comp).
The other main point was there might be a bye but you already said there's not.
Finals? then again it's a bit average now when half the league gets a crack.
