Hmmm... could you have folded AA here?

Postby rcon » Sat Mar 21, 2009 5:11 pm

45 left in 620 runner, 10+1 KO tourney.

Above ave stack, min raise UTG from 1600 (ish) to 3200
Tourney chip leader raises from UTG+2 to around 10k
CO or button calls that raise.
Big decsion here. I'm in front here, but both these stacks have me covered, and I wanted one caller, not 2.

Me, being me, pushed for around 25k

UTG+2 and CO call.

Flop comes KJx, faaaaarrrr...... Don't like that.

UTG+2 pushes rest of stack, CO folds (WTF was he calling with? QQ maybe??), and promptly rolls JJ.

Can anyone here see a way to fold AA in that spot? I REALLY want one caller, and hell, that was the tourney leader, so I would have been busted anyway, but should/could I have folded when 2 others, who both had me covered, decided to play? Bubble was long gone, so I was shooting for the win at this point, which was the main deciding factor.

can't fold aces when you have the option to shove for more 2.5 times more

you still have fold equity, and you were getting your chips in way in front

i would have shoved and expected at least one of them to fold, bad luck that both of them called and you got sucked out on.

if you win that pot, you are going WAY deep

I agree with what benny the cunt said. You are certainly ahead, and likely have one or more of your opponents drawing to 2 outs. Esp after all that action.

Ship it and hope for the best.

I honestly think the topic heading is redundant.

In this situation who is:
a.) Stupid enough to fold aces here?
b.) Stupid enough to think folding aces is the right play?
c.) Believes that because they got sucked out on, folding is the right play?
d.) Then writes a post out of it?

Sorry Rcon, just having a dig and no malice intended.

Noone should be folding AA in that situation, and I mean nobody! So why ask the question?

It's a beat in that situation but anyone who is playing and constantly worrying about a beat needs to change from poker to playing yahtzee with their grandparents for ten cent pieces.

Does anyone think that folding AA in that situation warrant any contemplation?

I think you should be asking instead should I flat here with AA or re raise? What should my bet sizing be? How do I play postflop? What equity do I have?

My questions: What are effective stack sizes, blind levels and player types? What have your opponents played like and shown down with? What is your table image? What are you targets for the tournament? What stage of the tournament are you at?

If we really wish to discuss poker strategy then let's discuss it slightly more in depth and really look at the way we could have played a hand taking into consideration all of the information.

And in answer to your question, no I couldn't have folded AA there, and I would declare EPIC FAIL then FACEPALM if anyone ever did.

I pushed, 'cause I thought it was the right move, but made the post for 2 reasons.

1. We've just had this discussion and people were trying to come up with situations where they might fold AA. I have never, and will never fold AA in that spot (maybe on a bubble). Topic heading was really aimed at readers of the previous post.

2. I was filthy with how that hand played out, and wanted to write something about - or I was going to kill some of those penguins.

Topic was perhaps written out wrong, and I should have just done it like the whinge it was ;-)

Rcon I can understand your angst, online game last night blinds are 15/30, I'm UTG and delt double one's and I am chip leader at the table.

Its too early to push all in as I would get no value save the blinds, I make a modest raise 3x the blind, I get a number of callers.

The flop is 3 diamonds including an ace, trips against a possible flush, SB and BB check, I decide to bang in a raise equal to the pot to see whats out there. All fold to SB who calls, BB folds, the turn is another diamond again I bet the pot, and SB come over the top with an all in I suspect he has a flush.

What would you do Fold or Call ?

What did I do I wll respond later

yours is a Completely different situation to Rcon, Gdog

Rcons options were to fold or push all in,

in your situation being early in the tourney as well as chip leader you have plenty of oppourtunity to get away from this hand, after the flop. To me thats the mark of a good player, somebody that can fold pocket aces once the flop comes up against you.

Aces cant win all the time, yes they will win more hands than all other starting cards but they cant win all the time so you have too except that sometimes you have to let them go.

in you situation after your opponent pushes all in, yes youve lost some chips but you still have your tournemant life - Fold

wether or not he actually has the flush is irellavent, thats what he is representing, and its enough for me too pick a better spot.

Be the better player and lay those bullets down.
Does anyone know how to make money playing uno vs 6 year olds, its about the only card game i get to play these days.
