Well, I'm not really surprised that they said it's a hoax (spot the conspiracy theorist).
But even so...do you really think that Australia as a supposedly free country is helped by having the Government decide what you can and can't view online?
Add to that the fact that they won't even tell you what is on that list.
After a brief stint of living and working in China I can tell you that being denied to such a basic website as BBC News becomes a big issue. What is next on the list...sites with questionable political content?!
Do you really think that the government is doing this for the "good of the people"? My only concern is when the general population will stop trusting their government blindly and actually start questioning authority.
The Internet Censorship List may well be a hoax this time but just the fact that there is a list and that there may (more than likely) be mandatory filtering (which we cannot opt out of) is pretty scary.
As has been stated many times in the media...this will put Australia on the same level as China, Burma and North Korea.
But that's ok...isn't it...because the government knows best, don't they?!
Bit of a rant I know...but seriously guys...this is something that must not happen.
If you have something in particular to say to the oh-so-powerful
Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy then please send him an email.
