Im bored with super turbo poker.

Postby maccatak11 » Tue Feb 24, 2009 10:48 pm

Getting bored with super turbo poker lately. My standard night is get to poker, get some ok cards, fold most carp ones and end up with an average stack.

Blinds go up to 1k/2k, i have a stack of 5-8k. i push with a big hand, get suckedout on by a smaller hand and finish 20th-16th.

Its happened like the last 4 weeks. Give me a deepstack or relaxed blinds any day. Yeah the social side is great, but when the skill side of the game is sometimes so loosely related with the outcome, you get a bit disinchanted.

Ill keep playing my local venue, but there is no incentive for me to play extra games in my region, and i may as well invest my stamp money online.

Having said this though, im not exactly sure what NPL can do as i know there are time constraints on venues and TD's. I just can't bring myself to call two all-ins with AT suited in the second blind level. That seems to be what you need to do to win nowadays.

i think a bigger start stack would be the way to go - keep the same blind levels, but increase the start stack to 3K with each card worth 1000 or 1500

now i mean this with all respect to you macca, but is your boredom related to your bad results.

It doesnt matter if it is, but you have done well at this form of poker in the past and not said as much.

So is this line of thinking directley related to results.

because as you know, down swings happen, it will turn around, given enough time.

or maybe you really are a bad player and the proper results are now starting to show for you :D  (really really joking)
Does anyone know how to make money playing uno vs 6 year olds, its about the only card game i get to play these days.

Agree with Krunch here. You do well in deepstacks but are struggling with turbo tournys of late, tuh-da! - thats poker! Love it in ALL its forms.

I used to hate playing turbo tournys online, now i use them to get the "gambler" in me to have his play.

Having said that, i also agree bigger start stacks are in order. It has a lot to do with redemption and value of passports, so i wont go into it much here.

BUT..... we have experimented at the Renmark Club for the past few weeks and until the end of season we are having T2000 start stacks.

This is being trialled at a couple of other venues in the state also.

I am pleased to report that so far, it has been GREAT.
Tournies do not run any longer, as players are litterally "gobbled up" by bigger stacks in the mid-late stages of the tourny.

Players who like to play deeper, with a card redeemed are starting with T3000 and can easily play more effectively.
Aggressive players like it too for obvious reasons.

What we are also seeing is 3-5 players with HUUUGGGEE stacks mid-late tourny, that, unless disaster abounds, are certain to final table.

I'm going to recommend it be implemented across the board.

It really adds to the tournaments appeal having BIG STACKS. 8-)

Yeah your kinda right krunchie, but i think that even if i was winning each week then id still feel the same way. Unless you get a huge stack early, then after the second break then i know that any hand i play i have to commit all of my chips, or fold.

A 2k start stack would be great. i think it suits players who like a deep(er) stack, and there is still incentive for people to fill their stamp cards, which is important.

I still love poker, but was just annoyed about playing tight aggressive poker, doing nothing wrong for the first few levels, and then being forced to make a move that i wouldn't like to make because the blinds go from 300/600 to 1k/2k within half an hour.

This is where I feel NPL is going to have to offer a slightly altered product (or maybe a new one in conjunction with the current one :D) in the near future, or they are going to risk some (I've no idea how many, but it will be a reasonable number) players doing exactly what you've suggested mac, and head either online, or to the cas.

NPL cash games anyone? ;-)

Its not that the poker standard would be sooo much better, but you don't want to be punished for waiting to play poker instead of bingo. But as Todd says, you've got to appreciate it in all its forms, however playing super turbo 3-5 games a week sometimes gets a little old, and if it wasn't for the social side of it, I doubt I'd do it as often any more.

i have to say, that i played poker with a competitor just recently, and i must admit that i really enjoyed it

start stacks were 3000, and you had an opportunity to get another 2500 through stamp cards. blinds were similar to NPL, but they were capped on the final table (at the TD's discretion i think)

to be brutally honest, there are two things that stop me from changing and playing with this other provider (who runs at least 4 games a week within 15 mins of me)

the first is the social side of poker - i love playing at the kingy on a thursday and friday and catch up with everyone

the second is that the other provider(s) doesn't offer a big state final like NPL does - and lets face it, the big tourneys are what i and most other players play for.

NPL definitely needs a rethink of their regular tourney structure IMHO

My plans are big!

And there certainly are changes in the pipeworks, the dilemna is that anything I say now will not be implemented from anywhere from 3 months to 12 months.

Everything moves slowly and there are many projects on right now, and high level discussions.

Needless to say I know we need to offer our players more than the one standardized tournaments and I am endeavoring to create an infrastructure that accomodates these changes and the potential for massive growth.

Currently I am a senior manager for an organisation, I am also responsible for everything from day to day to long term (up to 5 years) planning.

My long term vision is to create a fully integrated poker competition comprising of freeroll/CBI's online and live tournaments, with different tournament formats and poker variants open to all of our members.

It just takes time.
