While we are on this topic, I'm looking at doing Naked DSL, but want the abuility to have wireless broadland/internet access on my laptop away from home, is there anyway to use my Naked DSL, or is there a cheap option for limited use that anyone can suggest (pay per usage rather than per month)?

ok, there are two different ways you can get "wireless"

first is to sign up with a telecomms company, and get wireless from anywhere any time - for some people, this is very convenient, but it is expensive. (something like 3's wireless broadband is the way to go)


the other option is simply to have a wireless router connected to your land line at your house. this means you can still have "wireless" internet from anywhere in your house/backyard, and also have it connected to a desktop computer at the same time. if you are only gonna use your internet at home and not on the train etc, then this is definitely the way to go. (this is what scott was talking about)

Not confused between the two, have a wireless modem/router at the moment which gives me "wireless broadband" at home.

I was referring to the former, ie I want to be able to use my internets on my laptop on the train, etc. But am looking for a cheap way to do this ie by paying per MB, or time usage, etc

no, wireless broadband is a perfectly acceptable term for broadband being delivered to a personal device without wires (WiMax or 3G, doesn't really matter), whereas wireless networking is the term you'd use to describe the means of communication from your home, personal, router/switch to your PC/Laptop/Wii etc etc.

rcon is right - but some for some people, all they need is for wireless networking at home, and don't really need another service. i am not sure which one V8HATCH is referring to, so id thought id ask
