Can use any phone really, for VOIP.
I just plug my Panasonic Cordless into my Billion router. Simple.

Yes, I happen to like my current home phone, don't see why I should buy a new one!

Dave, are you saying I can plug my current phone into a standard ADSL modem without the need for an adapter?

Re: naked dsl
Talked to Hypernet about the best hardware option for me, ie
1) Buying VOIP modem/router + VOIP phone (although I realise now that you don't need a new specialised VOIP phone to use in a VOIP modem/router, you can just put your normal home phone in the VOIP modem)
2) Buying ATA and using current modem/router
3) Any others?
They said:
I'm a bit confused, wouldn't the ATA be a cheaper option?

The neatest most reliable way to do this is to purchase an ADSL2 VOIP router to replace your current equipment and brings with it the VOIP side.
We do the Billion range, currently have in stock Billion 7404VGPM at $230. There is a 7401 model too but is not in stock and supplier has no ETA for new stock.
I know several people running naked ADSL2 and VOIP via Internode with above router and very happy with the performance

If the ADSL Modem has VOIP functionality, yes.

I understand. And my standard ADSL modem does not have VOIP functionality, otherwise I would have said VOIP ADSL modem!

I could be throwing one into my garden if I decide to upgrade to a VOIP ADSL modem. Not sure why I would do that though if I could just buy an ATA for under $100?
