I like Phil Hellmuth and I know he has won more bracelets than anyone else (1 more than Johnny and Doyle)....but THE BEST in the world?

If you were strictly speaking tourneys, he's right up there. But I reckon there's better "all round" no limit players.

Maybe you didn't read it properly. Yes the BEST NLHE player in the world. I didn't say best all round player.

As you guys have said, there are plenty of players out there that are always enjoyable to watch ... Hellmuth is always great entertainment IMHO and not just for his poker abilities, but also the emotional rollercoaster he rides, entertainment plus!

My favourite is probably Antonio Esfandiari (sp??), but also enjoy watching Hansen and Negreanu, and naturally Jo Haschem for the sentimentality.

My all time favourite player would have to be daniel negreanu. His reads are just uncanny, hes an awesome player and one that i look up to and try adapt some of his style of play.

I agree with garth that phil would have to be the best NL HE hold em player out there, however, in terms of all the games i.e HORSE i think we cant go past Chip Reese (r.i.p). I think he was a great player, and was an asset to the poker world.

Well theirs my two cents, but some other players deserving a mention include, Ivey, Hansen, Deeb, Benyamine, and The mouth. All great players..

imo Stu Ungar (R.I.P) was the best poker player, too bad he couldnt control things away from the table

i reckon its a bit of a myth that Gus Hansen is the reckless loose player who will raise with anything. I think he picks his spots carefully, but its also about the tv coverage. You never see coverage of a hand where Gus Hansen raises from the button with a monster and everybody folds - only the hands that are interesting or if he raises from the button with nothing or is making a big bluff. I dont think any pro wins 'playing with anything'. and man it annoys me when people go all in with 3-7 under the gun with 6 to act behind them, just cos they 'saw gus hansen do it'.

show me the footage and ill believe that gus was ever that stupid.

my favs, gus hansen (howd ya guess), phil ivey (great article on him in the jan/feb BLUFF) and negraneu. oh and also that 'magician' guy who does all the chip tricks - i know his name, just not game to try and type it
