naked dsl

Postby Bacon » Tue Jan 20, 2009 12:57 pm

i'm sick of paying $35 a month for a phone line i don't use, so am thinking of changing to naked, or similar.

Adam have theirs, but the techo suggested i get a different modem to the one they sell. And i forget which one.

Can i get some geek help from here? In normal speak please!

Paying 90 a month now for 20G if u count the phone line. Naked is 65 i think, but have to buy a modem. Any suggestions?

bob, if you dont know what you are talking about, dont post. AAPT are more expensive, and you still have to have a phone line. so how does this help?

bacon, i would say a wireless router combo that you can also plug an analogue phone into.

i am not sure which one they recommend, but something like this would probably suit. not sure of the prices either.

i have a netcomm wireless modem/router (no voip) and it works well for me.

edit: msy have that router out for $179 which sounds pretty decent to me.

EDITx2: just had another look, and it turns out thats what adam recommend for people signing up for naked. why did they tell you to not use that modem?

i think it was due to voip restrictions.

I think it was billion they recommended, and it seems that internode prefer one by them.

Is Billion, is good. Quality.

For really good advice on this sort of topic, try http://whirlpool.net.au/ as well. Not suggesting there is a lack of info/knowledge on here, but at whirlpool you'll get some really good, technical info from people who live and breath their modems (and games) and not much else.

i've just spent a good hour or 2 on whirlpool reading up all sorts of stuff.

Seems billion is the way to go.

I'll just lose my internetz for 2-4 weeks :-(

Or just go on the home budget plans ... I think Telstra's is about $19.95 a month?

Can't do that (used to be able to) and get ADSL from another supplier.
