Tournament or Cash Game Player?

Postby Chelsea4thewin » Mon Jan 21, 2008 11:39 pm

hey all

just wanted to know if you guys think your game is suited more to tournament or cash games? and explain why?

tournament places a high emphasis on accummulating chips where in cash games you can take your time and grind it out

personally i think im a better cash game player, i play a solid type of game, i like to choose my hands carefully but play them quite aggressively. This style has allowed me to do well at the casino 2/3 n/l tables

Cash player for sure

I mix it up playing solid for ages then loose as a goose for a bit to entice people to call or raise when I am solid.
I build a big stack then lose it when I am targeted by someone who sits and watches me for hours and catches on.

Don't get me wrong
I see my share of final tables but I have to curb my agression a lot and to be blunt its not always as exciting as I like.

In a cash game I can hit and run and not worry.

On the other hand I leave the casino when I am in danger of going to sleep at the table and have always profited -so far.

Personally, cash. Doesn't mean I LIKE cash games better, I just play them better. Often I'll get stressed and full of anxiety in a tournament and find it hard to settle nerves and focus.

Well the teams game is just like a cash game table Dave. Not a worry at all. You've got that one covered! I see big finishes for you... to cover my own poor performances of course.

I am going to have to go Tournament player.

Main reasons, i have bad hand reading abilities.
I have a grind and scrap mentality
I am carving it up in SNG's at the moment.
(Roi @ $1 (-70%), ROI @ $2 even, ROI @ $6 40%)
Turbo tournaments last 40minutes
Limited variance to buy in's not actual dollars.

Cash Games.
Don't have the patience to be a rock.
Variance is too big
I like my suited connectors
I like limping
I have too big of a range,
Am way too loose.

So yeah, one day i might learn cash game play and improve my MTT, but at the moment having fun in the Sit n Go's and building my roll slowly. But its growing. :-)

Brett.

I'm struggling a bit with this one....

At first I was going to say I reckon pretty much 50/50 for me but on reflection I'd have to say tourney edges it.

I've no problem being patient (which is quite the opposite to my natural character) but for some reason seem to do well more often than not in tourneys. In cash games (although have played a lot less of these than tourneys) I've probably only broken even.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!
