aaron, i'm gonna get bored waiting 30 mins for my partner to play. 20 would be ok, if needs, but i felt that only having 6 or so hands was part of the fun. Could i gain chips when not getting good cards? Had to try some different things.

The blinds were off, but Nick did say there was method to his madness... And they removed the antes until ft!
I'm not perfect. I'm what perfect aspires to become

I'd like to hear any negative feedback or positive for that matter.

I know a lot of the Victorian players loved the partners event and were keen for more, it was always my mindset that the partners event was always the premier tournament of the day.

And there's nothing wrong with a turbo shootout, I love gambling early and trying to build stacks of marginal hands, too many players were sitting back and playing extremely conservatively (because I only have T1000 chips!!??) instead you should be jamming pre and trying to pick up as many orphaned pots or contesting coin flips as often as possible. When I am bored and don't feel like concentrating on poker I will go play 1c/2c or 2c/5c just for the fun of shortstacking it and playing some maniac let's accumulate chips by force poker.

But I didn't take much notice of the SA run sheet, but I do know the Victorian tournament schedule for the partners event saw a solid five hours of poker played for 52 teams. By 500/1000 (solid two hours into the tournament) we still had more than half the field with 32 teams left in play.

What was the SA schedule like?

That's how many people saw it, and why it was even more disappointing when the partners event wasn't top notch.

All 15 min levels.
25/50.
50/100.
100/200.
300/600.
500/1000 (my partner and I were knocked out here).
20 min break (this is when we left).
Was advertised as: 1000/2000/200.

But I heard that they were thinking of scaling back the levels, maybe 800/1600. I don't know what happened, as we left. Apparently the tourny was planned for 400 players, this is why the blinds were as they were. And as Bacon said, ante's weren't introduced till FT anyway.

Bacon: 20 mins could work.

20 minute blind levels worked fine, we didn't scale back to 15 minutes until after 500/1000.

Irrespective of field size the tournament structure dictates attrition rate and total running time. So whether 200 or 400 the tournament would still run from 4 to 5 hours with that structure.

Aaron, I am keen to hear why it wasn't a top notch event, please feel free to PM or email me.

I thought the blinds did seem to be climbing fairly steeply, but I also think that's so people actually had to play a hand. You are kinda supposed to be knocking other players out and all.

Shootout tourney was really good - no problems at all as far as I could see.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

25/50
50/100
100/200
300/600
500/1000
1000/2000
2000/4000
3000/6000
5000/10000 etc

instead of 300/600 i would have liked a 200/400, then 300/600 (or 400/800)

the jump from 100/200 to 1000/2000 in the space of 3 blind levels was really quick.

There was meant to be 200 antes at 1000/2000 i think but after some discussion they were dropped off.

Other option is, seeing as we're starting with 3k. Start at 100/200. then 200/400, 300/600, 400/800, 500/1000, 1000/2000 etc?

From the people I talked to... I think that this was the only issue they had.

20 min levels would have been nice too. I can't believe after so many seasons of NPL that regulars players still can't shuffle a deck of cards under a minutes.

It was really intereresting too... at one point in the tourney, I had 2 pair (top and bottom) and a player who I considered to be pretty good and tight was raising and betting hard at it. Usually I'd shove, thinking I'm good, but then you start thinking about your partner and if they'd be pissed off.. in the end I folded. Still dont know if it was good or bad. It just really made me think a little more about the hand, and maybe opened my eyes to how I'm playing lately.

Prizes for everyone at the final table would've been nice too... yes me and scott finished 9th. Standard whinge ;)

All in all was pretty damn good.

And Dakota is still a dodgy dealer!

i didnt go but one of the reasons that turned me off was the length of the day, the partners event was the only real attraction to me and thay didnt start till 4pm, with rego at 930 to 1030 its a loong day

yeah it had the shootout event but it seems like the entire Sunday is spent at the poker tables, it is the christmas season so maybe the timing wasnt the best either
