1 stamp for a red bull is not enough. :-)

I reckon this thread will stop b&g'ers complaining again.

I can understand WHY venues are stingy but really, keep the customers happy and they'll come back and buy more.

There is definitely no NPL rule about stamping only for drinks.

i knew of one venue here in SA that used to give you stamps for Xlotto and Keno purchases too... shame they arent with NPL anymore.

Not sure the limits they put on it.

We went down to the Royal/Strath double a few Thursdays back (after the Kinger). At the strath, this HILARIOUS convo went down.

Mate: "Dakota, what's the stamping here like?"
Dakota: "Standard."
Mate: "I don't know f*cking standard I'm from gawler, whats standard?"

Ok, maybe you have to be a B/Ger to get it :D

On topic: Generally, if you let the bar staff know that you're unhappy with their stamping system, they'll comply. They wanna keep their customers. Most places are fair (read: fair, not outlandish). Vote with your feet and see what happens.

The Payneham tavern have tried a pre purchase drink card with some success. Players can buy a card with 4 drinks pre paid on it. The venue is a late game so it does not offer food. The card system allows a player to space there drinks out over the whole game.

I think the venue (and more so the TD's that suggested it) should be commended for this innovation. maybe it is a hotel that could be used as a case study for the idea. It has shown a common sense approach to the card maybe it could be implemented in more venues with such issues in the future

this issue re the drink cards got worse when the bar staff stopped having cards. when the cards were at the bar, you could get there an hour earlier than rego, (like we often do with our family) have a meal and some drinks, taking advantage of all the drinks you were 'shouting' your family so you could get stamps. but then people started abusing this by collecting cards from the bar staff as well as npl staff, stamps went missing and people were handing in 4 or 5 cards ... ggrrrrr

this could be remedied by the npl staff having to see your 2 cards when it comes time to register and putting their initials or something on the card, so they know they are the only 2 cards you can hand in.

so you would have 2 choices, card/s when you buy your first drink, or card/s when you register, not both, getting them authenticated by npl staff and this should ensure you only hand in 2. it might also eleviate some of the drunkedness, which may only occur due to the time restrictions for consuming that amount of alcohol ..

now, don't get tuff on me ...but what do you think?

In SA, bar staff don't have cards.

You get cards one way and one way only - from the TD once you register.

When I used to play at the Modbury, the bar staff were more than happy to give me a receipt for my meal, which when registered meant I could revisit the bar, give them the receipt and get my stamps.

It's logical, really. You are there to play poker - and the venue takes your money, hopefully, for meals and drinks. When you purchase is pretty much irrelevant I would have thought.

Dear Rosemary,
Every passport in SA is date stamped and only applicable for that night and therefore cannot be used at a later date.

Yep, what Dave and Alex said.

The TD's give us our cards when we register and as soon as we hand one in they quickly check the date on it and the other one gets initialled or similar so they know you've already handed one in. Works a treat.

I've had the pleasure of seeing some TD's publicly shame those who have attempted to hand in a dodgy card (love your work Daz).

On a similar note, way back in season 1 2007 I've also seen TD Nathan give probably the best speech he could ever possibly give after he discovered some jerk was stealing chips during a break. It was the rant of all rants, the tantrum of all tantrums, and he got a well deserved round of applause for it too.

Dave has highlighted an excellent point. How hard is it for a venue to just give you a receipt if you've done them a favour by getting there early and purchasing a meal etc? Initially, the Modbury Hotel was shocking for their stamp policy and were complete Nazi's about it too. They very quickly learned that was the best way to upset absolutely everyone all at once and to their credit they adopted the more relaxed, yet sensible approach they have now (well I assume they still have it, haven't been there for awhile).

Other venues here in SA have cottoned on as well. Pooraka FC allow pre-purchase and they simply write your name down with what you still have owing drinks wise and cross them off as you go - easy peasy! They still get your money and you are happy as Larry for not having to argue with a non-thinking bar person which pretty much leads to you as the happy customer being much more willing to come back and spend again. It's win-win for everyone!

That sort of can-do attitude is without doubt a massive piece of self-promotion for the venue and I'm sure there's a lot of venues everywhere that could learn a thing or two from it.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

alex and big pete ... in vic, our drink cards are date stamped too so once the night is over, the card is useless. but we have approached these venues and suggested these things and just get cut short, being told it is not policy.

Having said that, I will go directly to management and make these suggestions again, as the RSA issue is a huge one, and as they have 'kids' members cards for the club, and they get free drinks, we go to eat, get the kids drinks and wait til rego time before we get ours.

it does not encourage you to get there early and have a couple of drinks, it actually deters you.

thanks for your input.

Funny, Rosemary.

Asking for a receipt of purchase is NEVER against policy. Regardless if you're buying a beer, groceries, or a car.
