Garth in response to your question, my problem is with both how players have been notified and the promotion itself, not that it will change how I play my season; I don’t want to complain about the promotion I just wish to provide my feedback in a constructive manner.
I think its wrong that a promotion, that may change the outcome of the season be introduced mid season without players being notified via the website before the season commenced.
I cannot think of any competition, be it amateur / fun, or professional where such a promotion has occurred without prior knowledge being provided to its competitors before the commencement of the competition.
I have not researched how the crown casino keeps its players informed of its double points tournaments however I am sure that the players would have been informed prior to the seasons commencement of such events occurring.
I find it a little disheartening to find out about double points December on a forum posted by a player, rather than from the organization that is actually running the league.
I often wonder why npl do not use this forum to run these ideas by a body of its players before deciding to implement them. I understand that Npl is a company that exists to make a profit and therefore changes being made are going to be based more along a company perspective than the players point of view, however it would make good sense to find out what the players think since its free easy information for Npl to obtain.
I have read a lot of comments about consistent players not being affected by double points being on offer. I play a regular venue each week that has 20 - 30 runners on average. If I am 2nd after 6 weeks I will have 120 points after 6 games to get myself in a position to qualify for states, having placed in 5 out of the 6 games, a fairly consistent effort.
I may have to miss 1 or maybe 2 of the double points December games at my venue due to family commitments over Christmas. Someone who played once earlier in the season at my venue has 32 points, they may be able to play the last 3 weeks and catch me with 2 decent placing. We will both be as consistent as each other however one of us has had to be so over a longer period of time and will still miss out due to the double points on offer.
The whole idea of double points December is to keep numbers up at venues late in the season as they may have a chance of cracking the venue top 5.
So therefore the players that stand to benefit from it the most, are likely to be players that have not played as much in the first 7 weeks of the season, I fail to see how this benefits those players that have been playing a majority of the season, be it at one venue, or chasing the state leader board.
I am not chasing it this season but there is a prize on offer for players that manage to rank in the top 10 at the end of the season. It would be a shame to see the top 10 being altered by a change in point’s structure mid season
I think this is a combination of bad timing, with Christmas rapidly approaching and a promotion that players really should have been informed of prior to the season commencing, also I don’t see the sense in having a situation available where a player can play less and be rewarded for it.
Double points at the end of the season no matter what time of the year, will mean that good players will play a lot less at the start of the season and play a lot of games in the last three weeks to qualify via the state leader board.
I think Npl is better served with promotions such as entry to a satellite tournys for players that win a event or even make it to anyone that finishes on a final table, whatever promotion you run to keep numbers up at the end of the season, I don’t think it should have the power to change the outcome of the whole season.
