1st Test: Australia v New Zealand, Gabba

Postby rcon » Thu Nov 20, 2008 11:31 am

Delayed start, but we must have won the toss, 'cause we're batting. No, wait, we were SENT IN! HUH? What is it with touring teams who keep thinking sending Australia in at the Gabba is a good idea?

Whoops. Appears touring captains might know more than me ;-)

Anyone think this might spell the beginning of the end for Hayden? Read somewhere he was considering this might be his last Gabba test, but still wanted to play on in England next year - can't really see him doing to well against a swinging York ball again.

Southee to Hayden, OUT, lazy waft by Hayden and he pays the price, Southee lands it on a good length on offstump and the ball holds its line importantly, Hayden hangs his bat out half heartedly (probably expecting it to move away) and the outside edge travels quickly to Taylor at first slip, he falls to his right and takes it easily
ML Hayden c Taylor b Southee 8 (18m 16b 2x4 0x6) SR: 50.00

HA!

Southee to Katich, OUT, Southee has struck again and Australia have lost their openers, he lands it on a good length outside the off stump and the seam really rotates, Katich pokes at it away from the body and the thick edge is taken by McCullum
SM Katich c wicketkeeper McCullum b Southee 10 (27m 17b 1x4 0x6) SR: 58.82

punter gone as well - just as well we are playing an extra allrounder :P

Southee to Ponting, OUT, Ponting goes and Australia are in deep trouble! The extra bounce has Ponting all the sea, he bangs it short of a length on middle and gets it to move away late, Ponting is squared up as the ball rears up uncomfortably on his midriff, the ball lobs off the top of his bat and travels to How at second slip
RT Ponting c How b Southee 4 (14m 8b 1x4 0x6) SR: 50.00

bear in mind everyone that the gabba is an absolute greentop

even now, i would have a lot of money on australia winning on the first innings.

i might even find out the odds of that
