Double December Points???

Postby kentishgirl » Sat Nov 15, 2008 1:45 pm

I just wanna get some opinions on the Double December points offer that is going to come in play on Dec 1st.

Does anyone else think its extremely unfair to the players who have been playing and working hard for a place in the current state leaderboard for NPL to offer double points in December? This allows potentially people who have not played a single game this season yet to got to venues like PGCC, Pooraka, Para Hills, play the minimum 15 games and qualify in the state top 10 thereby knocking out most people who have already worked hard to get there in the first place!

I dont think this is a very fair promo and honestly it has really annoyed me since I have spent a lot of time, effort and money to get into the current state leaderboard, only to watch that I will be taken over by the top 15 who place in PGCC over the next few weeks.

I will seriously consider not playing NPL next season if they continue to be so unfair in their promos

You could look at it from the angle that YOU are also getting the chance for double points in december.

Given your recent boastings you should be a shoe-in :D
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

You are right in that it will allow people to catch up on the leader board. However if you are a consistantly good player then you will get the advantage of the double points as well. All this double points system should do is give the consistant players a boost and seperate them from the purely lucky players :)
If you've got luck...use it!

Hi there Kentishgirl. I thought I'd respond to your post with a slightly different view, so here goes.

Sorry Guys & Gals, but it's another long one but I believe it's worth talking about.

Now, before anyone wants to misconstrue my reply in any way or form in addition to Kentishgirls post then let me say I am not aiming my reply at anyone in particular it's just a queerie as to, WHY?

Now, I might have missed the pre-season 5 announcement re; "Doubling the point for December". So, if I had then I stand corrected with my following coments.

If it wasn't then it seems that once again someone in NPL is trying to mess around with the preset program part the way through a season and come up with ideas like this one.

Is it to generate more interest in Poker?

I can't see how it will make any difference to the guys who are chasing victory or the guys who just play for the fun!!!

Is it to create more players?

I can't see that happening either as new punters wouldn't know any different.

Or, is it just more points = more punters = more bucks over the bar??

If I was Duc Dang our current state leader, how would I feel now after 5 weeks into the season and playing my guts out over 46 games and a possible 48 games by tonite????

I've made a genuine effort to play arund 9 games per week, and making the additional effort to get a good lead over the rest of the field?

Duc has a great 15 game average of 60.75% and second place is on 47.97% giving him a 12.75 buffer. Third in line has 46.69% and 4th has 45.36%.

Great effort Duc glad to see your name up there. It was a pleasure playing with you but obviously the Wheatsheafs obviously too low in numbers now for you to keep in front. Well done and I wish you well for the rest of the season.

What happens if Duc has a really bad run over the next 5 weeks or he decides he's spent enough cash to get where he is today or he doesn't improve enough on his percentages to keep him where he is today?

Then, anyone currently sitting in the top ten could have a good run and he'll be overtaken. Especially, in those last 2 or 3 weeks because someone decided to move the goal posts and double the point!!!!!

Again, I say if it was announced prior to the start of season 5 then I stand corrected. But if wasn't then it just doesn't seem fair.

The need to chase points all over Adelaide for those large numbered tourney venues that, many times a week is a little bit of a task in itself.

Again, it's just my thoughts on the matter nothing more nothing less. But if it were me I would be really peed off if it was only mentioned part way through the season.

Here's a thought!!!!

Maybe NPL would like to consider a more even playing field where you get set points for the top 15 players in a touney. No matter how many runners there are??????????????? Just a thought seems to work else-where.

Looks like the Gardens is the place to be on Wednesday and it's possible there'll be bugger all punters at the Wheatsheaf due to the cash incentives being on offer at the Gardens. See you there and good luck. :D

Nice post Bob. I too wondered the same thing as you, as i also had not heard of double points december until this thread. So if it has only been thought up of half way through the season then i think it is unfair as you suggested.

The thought of fixed points for top 5 is also interesting. The big venues would hate it, as it would effectively kill nights that are 100+ players. However, the 20-35 player venues would benefit greatly by points chasers attending their venues instead.

Would it equal out and see the same amount of punters attending NPL games? My feeling is that numbers would decrease, as there would be less of an incentive for multi-gamers to attend all of the big games. Interesting though bob, but i don't think it will happen.

... I got an SMS SMS's the other day.

Yeah, seems unfair to launch it without notice - with notice perfectly fair as everyone has same playing field - but this seems a little strange.

I suspect the purpose is to give a boost to number that might flag off in some of the small venues toward the end of season - big venues seems to get a boost toward the end of the season anyway - I do know this type of thing has been talked about on here before, but can't remember the general consensus on it.

Putting aside if it's fair or not (because part way thru the season = just plain not)... one benefit that I can see is that it may keep the players showing up regularly as they chase either state leaderboard or finals - especially with xmas coming up (season ends 21st December).

What I think it definitely does do if help avoid the 'oh I can't make it now boo hoo' syndrome, because one decent result and you're right back in the mix.

It really doesn't reward consistent performances at ALL - but then again neither does the state leaderboard and we've all had that discussion already.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!
