I haven't yet played a game where I thought the TD was doing a BAD job.

I think this is a FANTASTIC compliment to NPL staff. I'm not sure how many games you've played Bacon, but I'd assume it's quite a few. Lets say 100+. I'm pretty sure that if you visited say Maccas 100 times, or rang a Telstra help line 100 times or visited a retail store 100 times, you'd be pretty likely to say that on a couple of occassions someone was doing their job badly. I'm glad the NPL staff haven't let you down yet, & I hope that trend will continue. WTG NPL

I think part of the reason for staff doing a great job is the standards and practices set down by the NPL organisation.

The staff are GREAT, and personable, intelligent, easy to talk to.. etc. Great mix of people.

But the standards they run by, and procedures they adhere to are what make the NPL the best poker competition in South Australia, and no doubt Australia.

I think people take for granted the little things that make the NPL consistent and enjoyable. Staff wearing correct uniforms (or uniforms in general). Chip ups happening usually on a correct and timely level. Equipment being standard, and ALWAYS THERE...

Try playing another organisation, where the dealer buttons at the start of the tournament consisted of a dealer button, an opposition "winner" dealer button, a plastic star and a business card.. and you'll see what I mean.

I don't necessarily expect ...maybe that is a bad word to use.

But I think it is unreasonable that we would think that they want us to intrude on their personal lives, work is work and their life outside that should not be intruded upon UNLESS they want it to be that way.

We choose to play, they work out of necessity (as we all do) and I would suspect because they love the game and want to see it flourish.

It is unfair to also expect them to always be "on". They are people that have good and bad days and go through everyday stresses, yet they are faced with drunk, angry, nutty, players on a daily basis.

I expect everything to be run smoothly and professionally when I attend an NPL "event" - something I can honestly say has happened on every single occasion, barring the BIG night at The Alma, and that was sorted promptly. (edit: emphasis added)

I do think some people forget the "get out" clause in the NPL rule book that states the TD's decision is final, rules notwithstanding. I think people expect too much from TDs in that they expect 100% compliance with the punters interpretation of the rule book, when the rule book, like all rules, are written generically.

I wouldn't have thought this was a matter of taking it for granted, but rather the very reason I play NPL. I've only heard stories about other providers, but having never run into a glitch that prevented me from fully enjoying my poker experience with NPL, I aint likely to try!

As for intrusions into personal lives, this is something I would imagine all hospitality workers would face, heck, I used to get it working helpdesk - you learn to deal with it/avoid it.

So I wouldn't have thought we expect too much from "our" TDs, but rather some of us expect too much from the rule book. The bit about dealing with people from everywhere in various states is why I work with computers

the main 2 tds i have had o ver the past year have done a very gd job. linda and alex are great tds. where ever they hold a game i will be there

but i like to think that i could class darren and matty as people that i could have a beer with outside of poker

i think they also have this rapport with many of the other regular players as well, and this is one of the reasons why i like going to NPL - as much a social event as a poker game. but as you say, they dont have to be best mates with everyone there.

TDs do an awesome, but i wouldn't wanna be one
