Do we expect too much from TD's?

Postby Nevah play JJ » Sun Sep 21, 2008 12:18 pm

Lately I have noticed a few players around me having "opinions" as to what they expect from the TD's running venues.

As this is asking for YOUR opinions, I won't put comments in yet, but I would love to know, do you think we at times expect far too much from our TD's running the tourny's?

As in, their behaviour, their knowledge of rules and making rulings, making allowances for peculiarities of one player over another...
The list goes on.

What are your thoughts?

I expect a TD to know the game better than me as that is their job, not hard either when during a rebuy period with both cards stamped I will generally play any 2 (nitro hates that :D ) I would also hope they know the rules and are able to make a decision quickly if needed.

No, its the TD's job, they are paid to make sure the game runs smoothly and solve any problems relating to side pots etc

agree with me or not but this is a buinsess, no different to any buisness run from day to day

money changes hands for a service, the service is delivered etc

the NPL, the venue and the TD are all part of this service and all part of the buisness so in my opinion they come under the same scruitiny any buisness does

because in a round about way i am paying money for that service.

All tds get paid and as such should be required to do there job correctly for that payment, of course all tds like any worker out there will have varrying degerees of companancy, the good ones will develop a better following as repeat buisness may not be as forthcoming for the bad ones.

but yes there should be a minimum level we should expect from our td's as they are being paid, agreeing on what that minimim level is is the near imposible thing
Does anyone know how to make money playing uno vs 6 year olds, its about the only card game i get to play these days.

I agree somewhat with Crunchie.

Regarding their knowledge of the game. I'd like to think they all have the ability to make the correct decision based on the guidelines set down by NPL. However, some may interpret the rulings slightly different to others.

The fact that they receive payment/s for running one or more of NPL's events is of their own choosing and therefore they must accept the responsabilities that go with the position.

I haven't really met a bad NPL TD as yet. :D But, I must admit they do have different opinions, views or interpretations of some rules. I'm sure they are human and are capable of making an error from time to time like any of us do. :)

In most cases I'd say they all have a good sense of humour and are more than capable of doing their job properly. If not then it is up to you the punter to bring it to managements attention if it were serious enough.

I think that if their job description was left up to us there'd be 38047650365 different job descriptions :P
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Having done the job for a while now Pete, I'd estimate at least 38047650381, but you're pretty close. :ugeek:

JJ, do you think we TD's expect too much from our regular players & forum posters?? :?:
