Pokertracker is available for a 2 month trial then 90 to buy.
The interesting thing is that sitting at a table. The PAHud came up. It made making some decisions a little easier. Calling against the guy who was a 50/50 player (Lag) and folding to the guy who was a 10/8 player (Tight as).
But yeah can see some of the benefit to having the overlay. Only thing i need to do is set it up so that it sits better over the tables. I couldn't view any stats from the the left hand side of the table, because of the chat box.
Depending on how it all goes, once i understand pokertracker, i might jump up and see what i can do.
I just have to stop playing the online casino games.

Or you could be like me and win yourself quite a few nice stabs, cash out a bit of it, then proceed to get yourself decimated by going up a level when you (a)Don't have the bankroll, (b)No where near ready for that level and (c)Tend to play when having a little TOO much to drink.
Then you add a little bit more at that same level thinking you were 'just unlucky' when you were really outplayed in every which way... but now twice. And you still haven't learnt your lesson
I should have done what Brett's doing now some time ago so I'll have to keep my eye on the thread as well and may even have to follow by your example and actually try out some of this software.

Pretty much how i was, except it was sit'n'go's and tournaments, and never really had the patience to sit down and work it all out.
First impressions to follow.

119 Hands Into This.
As was mentioned previously, doing the low limit grind, really does lose the motivation. So in keeping with the gambling theme of it all, i went and decided to move up some limits.
Gone onto the 0.25c/0.50c NL. Therefore have to readjust the bankroll a little. (after a few bad blackjack sessions, DON'T PLAY THE CASINO GAMES)
So now my new stakes are pretty much $20 a buy in (40bb) which is good as being a tournament player it means i am in the green zone, and i can play back against the bigger stacks. I have $140 in the account giving me 7 Buy Ins, at 15 Buy ins i will move up a level.
With Pokertracker it is really interesting to watch, even with the limited number of hands, it gives you a good indication of what players are doing on the table. obvioudly with data mining, you could easily take on some of the people with more informed decisions. But some sites take a very dim view of this, especially Pokerstars.
As for how pokertracker works.
On the table screen, after a hand has been played (1st hand for session or previous history). The overlay is on the table. The VPIP PF Aggression Factor, are the three bits of information that are on there.
I think these will be good to start off with as everyone seems to be ABC players.
VPIP is Voluntarily Put $ in Pot - In simple terms, how many hands a player has entered into as a percentage. If a player has a VPIP of 66 it means 2 times out of 3 he is in a hand.
PF or PFR - Is pre flop raising - This is the % of hands that a player has raised pre flop. So a player who has a PF or PFR of 10 means that 10% of his hands he will raise.
Agression Factor - is pretty much how often a player will bet on later streets. Meaning that you can check raise knowing that he will most likely bet. Not too certain what this number is supposed to be around. But always good to keep an eye on it.
Now we can go into the other things pokertracker can do. They have pretty stats about what you have and you can review and see what is going on.
First is the Money graph (subtle brag).
There are a few other graphs to look at.
The position graph is interesting.
My BB is the only position that i have lost a lot of money. 6.42 however 5.80 of that was the big blind. So guess i am not travelling to bad there.
So far this is all i have done, obviously once i get more hands in, more information will be there that i can pass on.
If anyone else wants to add, or just ask questions. Please do, the more i learn the easier it will be later.

Re: Tips and Strategies: The New Laptop.
I used pokertracker semi recently and mostly liked it. I found the HUD to be extremely annoying when playing a 6-max because nothing would line up properly and there didn't seem to be any way to change it. From memory, part of the HUD even appeared over the bit where you type your bet in.
Other than that it has more stats you can shake a stick at. The trick is knowing which ones are actually relative to what you are wanting to know.

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Re: Tips and Strategies: The New Laptop.
I will get the hand history from home.
But pretty much A 7 vs KQ.
Hit the straight on the river.
Then two hands later, slow called his ace against mine to take what was left.
The read on the villain, was 63-0, Playing 2 out of 3 hands with no preflop raising. And no aggression factor. Very Very Nice person.
