I'll kick things off by having a bit of a whinge about caller ID and phone mannerisms, thanks to some experiences today at work...
Now, i like caller ID, i like knowing who is calling me before i answer. But if I miss a call from an unknown number, I’ll just leave it. It’s probably a debt collector (like I really want to talk to them!) or some other random thing, and if it’s really important I figure they’ll call back and hopefully I’m around to answer the phone. Why oh why do people keep ringing up saying “um, yeah, I got a missed call from this number”. To which I’ll reply, “well, this is *company name*, who do you think it may be from” (if you’re not a client, chances are we wouldn’t be calling you). Response is generally “nuh”. And this usually ends with me going “ok, well if it’s important, they’ll call back” because I’m not quizzing everyone on who they called that day and sometimes the caller tells porky pies because sometimes I’m the only one in the office and I know I didn’t call them. So that bugs me. So, you missed a call, big deal. Just be patient and they’ll call back.
People’s phone manner bugs me sometimes. Like the guy last week who told me to f*** off, when all I was doing was alerting him to the fact that his appointment had been cancelling, thus sparing him the inconvenience of going to the appointment only to have to turn around again. How dare I? Or, when people don’t know when a conversation has ended. Example: Caller – “Hi, is *name* there?” Me – “No, he/she is out, can I take a message?” Caller – “yeah, just say that I called (gives name…usually without prompting)” Me – “ok, I’ll pass that on”…at this point, the caller usually says thank you and buggers off, but, more often than not I get silence, the equivalent of a blank stare. Say thank you and hang up, moron! We’re done here!
And that’s today’s contribution. Feel free to add your own. I refuse to believe I’m the only highly strung and easily annoyed person on here!
(and if you tell me otherwise, I’ll bite you!)
