Finished 16th Steve. I went ALLIN for $4,400 with the best hand with AK off only to get sucked out by Russell with his A2d when a 2 hit on the flop.

Seems to be happening to me more often than not lately. Played the early Sky City on Sunday and same thing happened again befor the first break.

I'm down to $2k and some change I was BB with 78 off and the blinds were $50/$100. Two callers dealer and SB. Flop comes 6, 8, 9 with 2 hearts. SB checks I bet $275 with middle pair and a straight draw dealer calls SB folds. Turn comes a 5 for my 9 high straight so I bet $500 hoping the dealer calls and he does.

River comes a 10h to give me a 10 high straight and so I bet out with another $500 as I'm sure I had the nuts and I was hoping to extract a little more if he happened to have an average hand.

He says "ALLIN saying I think I have you covered"? Of course I didn't hesitate and called as I was sure I had the nuts and he was maybe on trips or 2 pair.

He says, "sorry M8, I hit the flush on the river"!!!! He shows me Ace rag of hearts.

Now why was he sorry? Was it because he had nothing and was drawing dead unless he hit a heart on the river? Or, was it because he did hit the heart and was embarrased he kept calling???????

Do you know how hard it is to accept what happened and still shake the hand of a guy who kept calling with nothing other than hitting a heart flush on the river???

Well you feel, totally, and utterly pissed off!!!!!!!! But I guess that's NPL Poker hey? And guess what? It'll happen again and I won't feel any better than I did yesterday, LOL

Then Suzie says "there's an NPL $20 minimum buyin with $1 & $2 blinds starting if your interested", LOL. Sure thanks Suzie, I'm sure I need some more of what I just had using my own money but no thanks.

so its a tough call, but because its the NUT flush draw, seems to entice people a lot more.

Your not on your own there Scott as I'm sure I'd do exactly the same thing. It was just so bloody gut wrenching at the time and there was that hollow feeling inside if you know what I mean.

I'm not noted for going out early in any tourney. So, other than the State finals at Tea Tree Gully this was an unusual situation for me.

Thanks benny the cunt. I assume he'd have still made the call had I gone allin b4 the river when I had the 9 high str8 but I thought I'd milk a little more LOL. In the end I got milked.

Good question and only 2 answers. Is middle pair and a possible straight draw worth a call or do I fold and wait for a better hand????

I was already in for $100 and an extra $175 kept me in control with a $275 raise. If you went over the top for an extra $425 I think I'd take the conservative road and fold.

However, if I only had say anothe $400 or $500 left I'd take the chance and call.

Tough luck Bob, although calling the flop and turn like this always smacks of a draw and with the 3rd heart on the river a flush would have been looking very likely to me. Also, he did have implied odds to call as hitting the nut flush he might have expected to take all your stack (although he probably wasn't thinking this!), and as it turned out he did, tough pill to swallow I know but his play wasn't all that bad. It was a winner takes all tourney too so people will be more likely to take risks to build a big stack.

Also Bob, moot point but he wasn't actually drawing dead if he only needed a heart for the nut flush, and there were quite a few hands (i.e. 2 hearts, or QJ, J7) that could have beaten you so unfortunately you didn't really have the nuts

So true Stevo. Poor wording on my behalf as I was blinded by my own non thinking player image by not surveying the possibilities that he may have had.

But, I did say I thought I had the nuts and I fell into a self made trap. I just had to tell my story and to be honest I'm still a little stunned.
