The trend seems to be
- Call
- raise to 150 or 200 if it's the first blind level
- min raise on other blind levels
- all in
Huge gap there somewhere.
Garth is right, 15x the BB... UTG .. you aren't giving yourself much chance to even see what happens let alone get away from it.

Re: Seriously!! I REALLY hate JJ
question JJ - were you happy when someone called you down with ace rag?
if the answer is yes, then u pretty much have to grin and bear it if the ace comes out
thats what i try to tell myself whenever i cop a bad one

Ok...
Last night I played VERY loose to begin with, the table I was on was playing to have fun and enjoy themselves, I decided to join in and enjoy playing as well, rather than playing my usual tight game.
To be honest it was one of the most fun tables I have played on for... omg, ages...
Unless I am wrong and again please feel free to say I am, but I was ahead pre-flop.
The table I moved to was pretty passive and quiet, so I tightened up and only played the top tight hands, A-10, rarely raised preflop and if I did it was maybe 2x and called if I had the hand to call, that kind of play.
There was enough time to see what kind of hands I played and this clown still called with A5s.
It really was hard not to be grumpy!

I really really REALLY wish I could agree with that, but in all honesty, I can be such a miser with betting, it burns me to buggery when I lose even the smallest amount.. LOL
I guess I just honestly expect to do better with a stack that large than to place 11th.

Garth Kay wrote:Huge overbet,
if you make that play at my table I am assuming you're not to confident in your hand and I would be calling off marginally. Depending on stack size and position.
But in real terms you are only going to get called by a better hand, or racing hands, 90% of the time.
Anyone with AA, KK, QQ, AK, AQ, KQ suited would be looking to double through you at this stage.
I'm not seeing this move with AA KK or QQ from UTG, so therefore I might be willing to race.
What you should have done is 4x or 5x BB see a flop and if an overcard hits you might be able to get away from that hand as you know the people calling either have pockets or overcards. Then it is just down to the read you have on your opponent.
Garth,
I read what you said with great interest!
I can see how what I did was stupid. If I was to read someone else playing that way, I would never have seen it as not having confidence in their hand, I would have read that they have a strong hand and they are happy just to get some blinds.
I did notice the person that called me was like a calling station, he was calling anything and everything, he obviously had a big chipstack, but he was just as quick to lose it. He had lost his stack about 2 times before hand and won it back by going all in...
I should have known he would call on my all in on the hopes of doubling up.. I obviously didn't.
Lately I have been noticing quite a few limpers along with a few other 2x 3x blind raisers with AA KK QQ etc.. and they have been getting their butts handed to them by 2 pairs or trips or the most frustrating of hands.
But I will absolutely take on what you said and try to play them better next time, unless I finally do what I always say I am going to do and fold those damn Jacks.. lol

I love JJ. I haven't lost with it (yet), but i have made sure to get away from it when i think i'm behind. Just because i love it, doesn't mean it's good for me all the time!
It is an easy hand for me to play and/or fold.

See.. that is exactly some players way of thinking and it frustrates the crap out of me, because they are always the hand that hits..
I sometimes wonder how we can become better players when this is often the case.

Not raising 15x the BB from UTG would be a start...
