i cant remember the last time you beat me in a hand AK - its been a while for you

There's not much difference between winning, and not losing.

interesting statement there.... David.
so Folding is not losing ??

nearly like winning hey ??... so

imagine the the 'fun' [learning] I have most nights when I fold away and say well folded Bruce that didnt hit or you you would have lost [ chips ] that time if you played them... Bruce.

Almost as satisfying as hitting and winning I say !!

i have been playing limit holdem a bit lately, and i keep getting my overpair or top 2 getting beat by a draw because its a lot harder to protect your hand in limit poker.

should i

1. Raise and re-raise to the death, and hope that the draw doesn't hit
2. play it cautiously, and just be prepared to accept that some players are drawing.

some advice would be good, cheers

if you raise- re raise you will limit the numbers in the pot with you so increasing your chances, but you also create larger pots which mean you can win more but on the other hand you will loose more when they draw, but to me if there is less people in the pot less chance of drawing.

if you play it cautious the pots may be smaller (in general) but there may be more runners on average in the pot, more runners= more chances of drawing.

to me it comes down to what suits your style of play

but thats the way i see it anyway

the problem in limit poker though, is that if you raise-raise the flop, you are basically giving them odds to call to showdown, regarless of what they have, which can increase the chances of someone drawing out on you

its a tough one - in no limit, i would just jam my chips in there, and make them call all of their chips on the draw.

but then if you dont raise raise pre flop you will probably get a couple of tag along limpers giving you 4 hands post flop instead of heads up

if you allow 3 opponents there will be better odds of one drawing a winning hand than if you had it at 1 opponent

as you said tough decision

i am not talking preflop here, i am definitely raising preflop

2 examples are when i had KK, which hit a set. there was 2 clubs out there, but i kept bet/raising, and i was getting called down. the river was another club, and with that i knew i was done, and sure enough, the other guy turns over [5c] [8c] to give him a baby flush. it was enough to send me up the wall.

about 3 hands later, i get 6 9 in the BB, and flop 2 pair with a 6 8 9 board, so it was fairly connected. once again, i went crazy, hoping to get them off a straight draw, but this basically gave them better odds to call, and sure enough the 10 landed on the river, and his 7 took it down.

in these circumstances, they are pretty much gonna call regardless of what you do, and its a big hit to your stack when they do hit their flush.

is it better to take a smaller pot, even though you are in front, with the chance that they will draw and take it down, or do you get your money in and just hope they dont hit the draw.

Embrace the variance. If they are gonna chase draws, they'll more than likely miss the next time.
