This thread has gone far from it's original point of bagging out Matty about Richmond to a reasonable conversation topic.
I would firstly like to say that not all league players are bad spellers. I played league in my highschool team and we were state champs for 3 years in a row or something like that. Apparently they still are too.
Secondly the difference between Rugby and Australian Rules isn't all that great. It's mainly just in the fine details such as a tackle in Rugby is allowed to be around the legs, tripping the player yet in Australian Rules you're not allowed to trip. I've played both and the difference between the two, when swapping from one to another is mediocre. They both teach you how to run with a ball, tackle, dodge etc and so all the skills are basically transferable from one code to the other.

The situation happens every NRL game where players aren't actually trying to get past their tackler, but much the same as touch football, are trying to get the tackle over as quickly as possible to ensure that the ball is played as quickly as possible and they can move the ball down the field as quickly as possible and catch the defending team off guard. Players are half-way to the ground before they are even tackled in the first few tackles. Its tactically (besides kicking) exactly the same as touch football.
In union and Australian rules, players actually avoid being tackled if they can help it.
You're right however the tactics are still very similar. In Rugby they want to get tackled so they can play the ball and continue on as quickly as possible. In Australian Rules although they may not want to actually be tackled they still use similar tactics such as drawing the player before passing to a team mate. These tactics have the same goal in mind, to spread the opposing teams defenses as wide as possible.
The differences between the codes may appear to be great when not paying much attention, but when thought is put into the similarities stick out like a sore thumb.
So what I am saying is that you're arguing of very minute details.
Oh and by the way... GO THE CROWS!
