The title of PLAYER OF THE WEEK implies the BEST player in a week.
So how do you measure BEST? Objectively or subjectively?
To my way of thinking the player with the BEST average NOT total points is obviously the best player.
How can anyone who only plays 3 or 4 games possibly compete with someone who plays 10 or 12 games?
Have a look at some of these averages. These people all won a prize!!!!
Total points Games Wins Average
1 350.70 10 35.07
2 337.70 12 28.14
3 317.90 10 1 31.79
4 305.25 11 2 27.75
5 286.70 12 23.89
6 281.50 9 1 31.28
7 278.80 10 27.88
8 266.10 10 26.61
9 253.60 12 1 21.13
10 247.75 9 27.53
Any thoughts peoples?

This topic has already been thrashed to death Cougar
I completely agree with you myself, but ... Sky City has put a lot of money into advertising POTW in its current format, so there are no plans to change it any time soon.
Here is Garth's thread on why it won't be changing, scroll thru for more discussion

IMPOSSIBLE for a regional player, even 6 wins from 6 games would be about 300pts!

Re: PLAYER OF THE WEEK or MOST WEAKLY PLAYED?
NPL Player of the Week can imply the best.. however, it can also imply the player who has played the most that week.
I'm never going to be playing to win these tickets, but if you are supporting the NPL by playing a lot of games, I have no problem with there being a prize up there.
I know people who, only because they have done well at a couple of early week games, have played another 2-3 games, just to increase their chances of winning. The NPL have gotten their goal, to get people playing more.
Sometimes, it's the title that people want, not just the prize attached. If it was just about the $65 Skycity entry, you'd just go and buy that.
I think it's a great marketing tool.
This has been discussed before, and I think we all agree that it is skewed towards the multi-game CBD player.

Win all of those 3 or 4 games. You'll stand a good chance then
Implications aside, the aim of the player of the week, as I believe it, IS supposed to reward those players that do play frequently and are thusly supporting the NPL. That's not to say that the people who only play once or twice aren't supporting the NPL either, it is simply geared to get people to play more for a decent grab at rewards.
I still understand where you're coming from, but it just simply isn't designed to be an average system and was never intended to be.
We won't let this topic run too long though, as it has been discussed before.

Unfortunately Paul your hitting on a subject that has been BBQ'd a number of different ways on the forum and the results are still the same.
1. Reward the average local punter at his regular venue by way of weekly trophys and vouchers.
2. Reward the top 5 at each venue with a seat in the State Finals.
3. Reward the Regional players with their own finals.
4. Reward the punters who won a final table in the last 4 weeks of the season for a seat at Sky City.
5. Reward the punters who want to chase the big carrot of being #1 in the state plus a weekly incentive for player of the week.
All is good, M8. Everyone gets a bite of the cherry including the guy who doesn't give a chit and just likes to play at his local venue.
By the way Paul, it's nice to see you back and hitting the lime lights again.

That's why regional players have a regional leaderboard and regional final

Good point. But also consider this...
Johnny Appleseed WINS 3 regionals events and points in 1 other during the week. They look at the leaderboard on Friday, and see they are about 80 points behind the leaders.. Would they consider driving 2 1/2 hours to Adelaide (from the Riverland) to play in a couple of metro events? If they were really concerned about winning at POTW prize, I'm sure they might.. especially if they had somewhere to stay for free (friends & rellies).
