Sorry Jessyka the new system is here to stay at least for the next few seasons. Although next year there will be some bonuses for those of you who live in "regional" areas.

Garth Kay wrote:Hi Guys,
I appreciate the fact that everyone is debating on this so much, but I sat down tonight and using the admin tool and a fair bit of excel spreadsheets and cutting and pasting I thought you would all like to know that out of ALL the players on the State Leaderboard there are only 7 players who are not in the top 5 of a venue. That's seven players people out of all of that leaderboard.
The majority of our top ten on the State leaderboard are currently sitting 1st or 2nd in at least one venue.
I think this is fairly definitive that even though the top 50 is skewed more towards those that can afford the time and money to play several games per week it is still indicative of players who achieve a placing fairly consistently.
If the top 5 in a venue is to be the judge of what we classify as a good player then I think we are not far off the mark in saying that even though the State Leaderboard is not a "true" representation of the best poker players within the NPL it still contains 99% of players which we classify as good players.
Agreed?

Thats it for me !! vote one vote Garth ...... Go Grow NPL ...

have a top ten in each region. Now that would be loyalty.

it makes perfect business sense to me.

as stated somewhere in here, NPL is about fun, it's not a 'professional' platform for players to play on, though it is a stepping stone towards it.

of course the NPL should be rewarding those that support them the most, so it's easy to understand why the new system is in place.

but for those going on about being top 50 in the state leaderboard, but missing out on the new system, does it really matter? if you're as good a player as you say you are, you'll be able to make a top 5 somewhere and make it into the finals!

the new system is much better (though i'm not benefiting from it) as it attracts the players back to felt. how fun was it last year when the people with decent averages stopped playing after 25 games because they were in the leaderboard?

i'm sure most of the above has been covered, but i've only read the first page 8-)

Thanks Andy,
You have re iterated most of my major points that I have made (several time in several topics). It's great when a player on here supports my concepts or reasonings! ;) LOL

at the end of the day, the NPL is a business and needs to look after its own interests first.

as you've stated, the top 50 isn't there to determine who is or is not the best poker player in the state. i think that's the where the issue is between most players, where they believe it is supposed to reflect player's poker skills, which obviously it is not.

NPL, like any other business is doing what will create the most revenue, obviously under the old system if a player reaches his 25 games with an average of about 40 he would stop playing NPL to ensure he qualifies in the averages. This would mean less people attending and less revenue

the new system is all about enticing players to play more and GAMBLE more (moral question arises), not only the poker itself but also the pokies at the pubs. Its quite funny how they always give change of $1 coins.

Bring back the old system

It would be an absolute minimum

At WORST, you get 50 people "protecting" their average (being the top 50) which is a stupidly small fraction of NPL patrons. These players not playing the last week or two would hardly make a difference.

Take a bow Andy and Garth. You hit the nail right on the head m8. I for one really, really, enjoy the 3 main venues I play at each week. Namely Parafield Gardens, Para Hills and Roulettes.

We have great TD's and Assistant TD's plus a whole lot of fun with a little bit of seriousness thrown in at times adds up to a great nites entertainment and fun.

It also allows people to gain employment and or add a little cash flow to their budget. It also offers an alternative for those who would normally be sitting around at home like a proverbial old fart making small talk with their partner.

I personally enjoy the new system and think I have made the adjustments necessary to play a whole lot better since it was introduced. I only played 38 tourneys and finished first @ PG, third @ PH and fourth @ R'lettes plus 27th in top 50.

I have also joined both community clubs (Parafield Gdns & Para Hills) which I would not have done if it wasn't for the NPL. I have met a shit load of people of all different ages, nationalities and cultures and enjoyed the wonderful meals with my family and friend.

To me it's not just Poker, or the bragging writes, or the shit stiring at times LOL .... (who me???) it's what you make of it all and how you can enjoy the moment.

Keep it up Garth, send my reward tokens to my home addy as I'm too old to carry it and I'll probably get mugged on the way to the car, LOL.

Merry Xmas all and a Happy New Year. And to those who don't traditionally celebrate Xmas ............. tuff!!!!!!
