Semi Final lost to Brazil on penalties in 1998. (overall 4th placed finish).
He then went to Real Madrid, for 6 months before being sacked.

Real Madrid are notoriously stupid. If they don't win every single season they have a cry, and they sack their coaches even if they DO win the title. Far too much politics at that club IMO.
As far Guus Hiddink, the man is a genius. I believe sheer overall fitness is one of the things he rams into his players. He certainly did that with us and prior to that make believe penalty we were running all over Italy.
Makes perfect sense too, at the end of the game when players are tired is when you'll see more mistakes made.
Anyhoo, now it's the semi-finals!
Germany v Turkey
Russia v Spain
Surely Turkey can't get out of jail again?
Surely Spain will be too good for Russia?
But with the way this tournament has gone, NO WAY will I be tipping!

I saw the chances they didn't take, yes 
I also saw the blatant faking which got them a penalty and I also saw how they were tiring much more than we were. I also remember we still had about 2 subs we could have made for even fresher legs.

Germany in the final, great game it was too, 90th minute winner by Lahm puts them through, what a great tournament this has been
